New Mills Bees U9 Vs Buxton Juniors Athletic U9 - 10/09/23
An altogether cooler day today at Glossopdale which was ideal football weather. The Bees were lining up against a new team we hadn't played against before, the only thing we could expect was a tough game. We were also missing a few players (Rocco and Hunter) and when things are tight anyway, it makes things even tougher.
Jordan kindly brought Frankie C from the Wasps to assist us in defence (more of that later)
The Bees lined up as: Stanley, Joshua, Frankie C, William, Brooke, Leo and Charlie.
The Bees got off to a good start and were making some good passes early on.
However it was clear this Buxton team although new to the league this season, were quite handy in putting some good passes and moves together.
The Bees found it difficult to break down the Buxton midfield / defence and it was a challenge to try and get the ball going forward to Brooke, Leo and William on the wing.
Stanley was keeping the ball out and Frankie C was a colossus in defence, time after time Frankie was the last player to stop a Buxton attack.
Buxton had chalked up a few on the scoresheet and the Bees were finding it hard to break through and get some momentum.
Half time couldn't come soon enough.
The second half started and the Bees were getting stuck in. Brooke was trying to get things moving from midfield, Leo and William were dropping back to help break down the Buxton attacks.
Charlie was also having to drop back to try and pick up the loose balls.
William played an absolutely fantastic ball through midfield to Charlie who couldn't quite get enough on his shot to trouble the Buxton keeper. When the Bees were attacking, Joshua was confident enough leaving Frankie to cover and going upfield looking for a good pass. Leo had a couple of good runs but couldn't make it through the Buxton defence.
The Bees had a tough game, but the one player who stood out was Frankie C. He was just immense today, he stopped many attacks and was in the right place at the right time to bring the Buxton attack to a halt time and time again. Whilst Frankie is a Wasp usually, he was an honorary Bee today.
(This will all change next week when the Bees play the Wasps !!)
It would have been nice if the ref had let Leo shoot before blowing for full time.... but apparently he didn't want to get told off for over running (you're forgiven Rick :)) Joking aside, the ref was really good today, he was involved, offering information and guidance to all the players and making sure the game ran smoothly. The Bees will buzz again next week in the derby !
