Match Report New Mills Juniors U7s vs Bramhall North Reds U7s Stockport Power league 19th October 2024

Writer: R.OakesR.Oakes

Saturday comes round again and this week the U7s competed in their first cup match in the Stockport Metro League.  We had a full squad this week and during the warm up we spoke to the players about what we worked on in training.  Our focus was about getting our head up, moving the ball and protecting the danger zone in front of goal.

Kingsley took the captains armband this week and started as usual in goal.  Kit would play infront of him at centre back with Lily and Leo either side as full backs.

Elliott and Logan would play further forward.  Alistair, Thomas and Jude would be our gamechangers this week.

We always emphasize that even if you don’t start the game, you can enter the game and make a huge difference, and this week they certainly did.

The game started and the Mini-Millers took control of the match.  Kit marshalled the defence perfectly, making tackles and starting attacks.  Leo was excellent on the right driving forward as often as possible.  What Leo is developing each week his ability with the ball, not only is he very aware of his position and reads the game well, he doesn’t simply kick the ball away.  He is now trying to carry the ball more each week, pass the ball and even get his shots away and was rewarded with his first goals this season – amazing work Leo!

Lily was relentless as ever in her tackling but each week is also working on moving the ball to her teammates.  She is building her confidence in shooting and is working hard to get her shots away each week and was also rewarded with her first goal of the season – keep working hard Lily awesome job!

Logan and Elliott are the most confident ball carriers on the team but are both working on their team play, passing, tracking back and looking for the best opportunities in the game.

Elliott evidenced this when later in the game he tried to lay the ball across to Jude who was in a better position rather than shoot himself.

Kingsley came out of goal in the second half and showcased his ball playing abilities.

Kingsley is working hard on his team play.  He is so composed on the ball and growing in confidence taking players on.  His true focus though is always on helping the team, which he is developing a great bond with.

Our game changers showcased their talents and development this week.  Thomas this week took a leaf out of Lily and his sister Annabella’s (U10s) book at being relentless.  He did not allow Bramhall time or space on the ball, so much so we lost count at how many tackles he won.  Not only that, he did it all with the biggest smile on his face.

Alistair when he started was very timid and seemed unsure of football but now, he is football mad, looks to drive forward with the ball and plays every game like it should be, at 100mph!!  He is also a great team player volunteering to play in goal for Kingsley to play out.

Jude each week showcases his grit and determination to get pressure on the ball, to tackle, to drive forward and is so keen to score a goal – it’s coming Jude keep working hard but know that you contribute to the team in so many other ways which is what makes you a great team player.

Every week the game finishes with smiles from every member of this team come rain, wind or shine – they are loving their football.  Awesome as always U7s.
