Match Report New Mills Scorpions U10 v Whaley Bridge Town U10 - 06/04/25

With a definite upturn in the weather, the Scorpions were looking to maintain their recent form against familiar opposition.

We were down to the bare bones player and coach wise as we were missing both of our Rocco’s and coach Jordan. Thankfully coach Phil stepped in to co-pilot our second to last match of the league season.

The Scorpions started strong and immediately put Whaley under pressure.  Ted broke forward and had an early shot, then Dylan broke down the right, cut inside and had a shot which tested the keeper.  The scorpions broke again with Dylan winning a corner. This was fired into the box, which Ted met and after a scramble poked it over the line ⚽️

An early goal is always good to settle the team. Ted was clearly fired up for this game and from midfield took the ball forward and hit the back of the net for his second ⚽️

Alfie was up and down the left wing trying to play Leo (our makeshift striker) into dangerous positions.  Dylan out on the right was having great success getting forward and had another shot just off target.

Our rock solid defence of Dayvd and Callum were standing firm and sweeping up everything that came their way.  Will came on for Dayvd and was just as solid with nothing getting past him.

Ted was once again in the right place and the ball ricocheted of the defender, Ted headed the ball over him and then buried his third ⚽️

Leo, now in a more familiar wingers role, took on a Whaley player…sprinted through, played it across to who else….. Ted was there to easily tap in his fourth ⚽️ (this was a standard FC 25 goal 👍🏻)

Alfie was working tirelessly whether on the wing, attacking midfield or up front and was a constant nuisance for the Whaley defenders.  Ted wasn’t quite finished yet and after some skilful midfield play, broke again for another ⚽️ (coach Phil likened Ted to Maradona….. high praise indeed)

Second half kicked off, it was as though someone had switched a light off. The Scorpions fluency and passing disappeared. Frankie was called into play several times to make point blank saves. Dayvd was working hard upfront to get a breakthrough.  William and Callum were breaking down the Whaley attacks as they came in wave after wave.

Leo broke forward and shot .. just the wrong side of the post and then with the final kick of the game Dylan let fly with a screamer which sadly pinged off the post to safety.

This was a mixed performance from the Scorpions, however plenty to work on in training.

This week, our players of the match were Alfie and Will. Both never gave up and were solid all game.

⚽️🖤💛⚽️
