Match Report New Mills Scorpions U10 vs Glossop North End Oranges U10 - 23/03/25

Writer: R.OakesR.Oakes

Despite warmer temperatures, there was a chilly breeze blowing around Glossopdale for the 12 o’clock kick off. The Scorpions have been firing on all cylinders recently and were looking to bring their form into a tough fixture.

Glossop N.E have been tough opponents this season, so we knew what was ahead.  We kicked off and were under pressure immediately.  The defence of Will and Callum were holding firm.

Ted had to drop back into a more CDM role rather than his more CAM position. This was easy for Ted to do (and still he covered every inch of the pitch)  Frankie the cat was called into action early on with a fine save, holding onto the ball.

Straight down the other end Leo had a shot which was saved.  More Glossop pressure saw an amazing one handed save down to the left hand side from Frankie (outstanding)

Constant pressure from Glossop saw the Scorpions struggle to get the ball over the half way line.  A quick break saw us win a corner, swung in by Dylan which Ted connected with.. only to see the keeper grab it.

Dylan had been up and down the wing being exactly where he needed to be.. he took the ball forward with an amazing run, passed it to Rocco T who intelligently saw Ted, squared the ball across and Ted let fly with a bullet which the Glossop keeper had no chance of saving ⚽️.

Quick swap with Dayvd on for Will.  Dayvd yet again was in the right place at the right time when needed. Callum was constantly there with a winning tackle and looking to clear the ball. Our wingers and midfielders were running up and down covering the space.  Will had run and run covering the space, a breather and a drink were needed.

Half time, the coaches had a quick chat with the players … but just like last week, the team talked amongst themselves and pointed out where we needed to tighten things up. Despite being 9 & 10 years old, they’re maturing into clever footballers.

We kicked off the second half and were more positive with our play. Rocco T who had run and run all day had a shot which flew just over.  Back down the other end Glossop had a corner which came across, there was a scramble but Dayvd was on the line to clear the ball into safety.

Another swap saw Callum on the left wing for Leo……..Now Callum is Mr Cool, and wherever he plays he won’t disappoint. He was constantly tackling and looking to move to ball forward.

Another switch around saw Leo go onto the right wing. Ted, who had been busy for the entire game picked up the ball and played it forward to Leo.. who shot, which was saved… but he buried the rebound ⚽️ The Scorpions were pressing now and being more dominant… Rocco T had another blistering shot. More solid play saw Callum out on the left wing speed forward, taking on the Glossop defender but we could t get anyone on the end of it.

Frankie was on fire today… one handed saves and calmly looking after his area .. brilliant.  All three of our defenders Dayvd, Will and Callum were immense today, they played so well. Ted was the unstoppable object in midfield… stellar ! Dylan and Leo were forwards, defenders and solid performers (& Callum on the left.. he ran and ran 👍🏻)… couldn’t ask for more.  Rocco T…. This player never stops running and playing for his team, to have him as a striker makes us lucky 🍀

PoTM could have been every single scorpion … they all gave 100% from minute 1 to minute 50.  For his sheer determination and attitude, Ted was the PoTM today. Ted has impressed the coaches with his attitude and desire this season.

We’ve got an immense team and we can’t wait for the coming years 👊🏻
