Match report New Mills Scorpions vs Tintwistle Diamonds U10 - 13/04-25

So, here we are at the end of the debut league season of the Scorpions. It’s been hugely positive throughout and as coaches we’ve been really proud of how each and every player has improved, grown in stature and developed firm friendships. This is how we can continue to build and improve as a team through next season and beyond.

For our final match, we were up against Tintwistle with almost a full house. Only Frankie (& coach Jordan) were MIA….  Coach Joe stepped in to assist (thanks Joe)

The Scorpions started very slowly and were under pressure from the kick off. Tintwistle drove forward and were looking to test Dayvd our keeper for the day.  When the Scorpions managed to break forward Dylan had an early shot which just went wide, then Ted had a shot which the keeper held onto.  Alfie was battling on the left and made some great tackles pushing the play forward.

Frustrations were obvious on the pitch as the Scorpions couldn’t get going. Dayvd was busy in the Scorpions goal pushing shots to safety.

Leo drove down the left and passed across to Rocco T who hit home ⚽️ (Rocco T never stops running for his team 👊🏻)

Rocco K / Callum and Will were staying strong in defence whilst Ted and Alfie were trying to settle things in midfield.  Dylan was up and down the wing tackling back and then pushing forward.  We’ve not seen as much of Rocco K this season as we would have loved, but when here he’s given 100% every time 👊🏻

Half time and a bit of a reset was needed (and by reset, a reminder of how we can play, what we need to do…calm down and play our game)

A great run from Dylan saw him fouled.  Dylan stepped up to take the free kick, beautifully hit …. Agonisingly it hit the crossbar and bounced out.  Leo received a pass, powered forward but his shot hit the post. 

Rocco T had been dropping deep to add some steel to the midfield, the ball was won by Dylan who steamed up the wing, but was tackled and the ball went out for a throw. Dylan threw the ball into the box, Rocco T picked it up and got it over the line ⚽️

This gave the Scorpions more fire which had been lacking.  Ted was switched on in midfield and won the ball, played a great ball for Rocco T to bang in one more ⚽️ now it was end to end…. Dayvd was shot stopping, pushing shots away and being the big character he is (he will always encourage his teammates) 👍🏻

Another break from Dylan and a brilliant cross saw a handball and a penalty for the Scorpions (our first of the season… so we have no designated penalty taker!)  this was the ideal opportunity for Ted ……..

Up he stepped ….. and nearly put the back of the net through ⚽️ (think Stuart Pearce Euro 1996 vs Spain… that’s what it meant to me)

This wasn’t the best Scorpions performance by far, but they showed steel, commitment and determination and didn’t stop.

One more game… it’s the Cup final … so (as was said at the brief post match chat….  No parties, no late nights the night before..) one more game to end a brilliant season for the Scorpions 🦂

Dylan - skills … attacks / defends. Wand of a left foot. 

Leo - speed / assists and plenty of goals.. captain 

Alfie - tenacity / tacking / 100% passion and never stops running.. he’s our pocket rocket. 

Rocco T - Will run and never stop playing for his team … scored an obscene amount of goals this year.. he’s our man 👊🏻

PoTM this week we’re our keeper who was more than upto stopping shots and our striker who led by example. Well done Dayvd and Rocco T
