Match Report NMJFC Scorpions U10 v Buxton Young Bucks - 02/03/25

Writer: R.OakesR.Oakes

Perfect football conditions for the 12 o clock kick off today. After a strong game last week, the Scorpions were looking to build on that today.

We were missing Callum and Rocco K, so there was definitely going to be some mixing and matching with players and positions.

Frankie C was back between the sticks today and made some fantastic saves throughout the game. Calm and effortless at times, others he was quick to react and make a block or simply pluck the ball out of the air.

Alfie, our little powerhouse dynamo started in an unfamiliar position in defence along side Will.

Ted played everywhere except goal…. Ted has never ending energy and covered every inch of the pitch today …. He has a great footballing brain and can sense danger before it happens.

Dylan on the right and Leo on the left…. This switch has really worked wonders. Both have the skill and ability to now cut in from the wing and hit a shot on their stronger foot.  Rocco T back up front looking to hold the ball up and get on the end of some crosses. Dayvd was our utility player today ready to cover any position.

We kicked off and were pressing from the first minute. Some tidy play in midfield saw us win the ball out on the left…. Leo pushed forward and slotted a great ball through to Ted who buried his first ⚽️ to settle the Scorpions. Dylan was up and down the pitch, tracking back and using his skill to play the ball forward.  His quick feet are mesmerising at times… more than once he was in the right place at the right time 👍🏻

Some scrappy play in the Scorpions half meant Ted had to come off with a foot injury, which meant Dayvd slotted into defence and Alfie moved into the CM role.  Again the ball came out onto the left after some great work by Rocco where Leo hit 6th gear and took on 2 players with his sheer speed, cut inside and hit one across the keeper into the bottom corner ⚽️

The Scorpions were playing well and communicating with each other all over the pitch. Dayvd and Will were on fire with their tackling, tracking players and putting the ball to safety. Alfie was covering most of the pitch securing things in the middle…. He’s tenacious.  Rocco T had been dropping deeper to get involved and be the extra player to win the ball and at times we needed his strength to win the ball 👍🏻

The second half saw the Scorpions start as they’d finished… tails up and looking for the ball. Frankie threw his body on the line to make a fine save, from the goal kick, Dayvd picked up the ball, took it past a player and then passed a sweet forward pass through to Rocco who at full speed, picked up the pass and sent it past the Buxton keeper ⚽️

Alfie was looking to get on the scoresheet and after a fine run up the left saw his cracking shot agonisingly tipped over by the keeper. All the while the forwards were looking to play each other in… at the other end Dayvd and Will were efficiently closing down each attack and playing the ball into a safe position….. such a delight to see from young footballers… keep it simple and close out the danger 👍🏻

Some more great work from Alfie saw him push forward at speed, pass to Leo who played through to Ted who smashed home his second of the day ⚽️.

It had to be said our keeper was shielded well by his defenders today …. But when the opposition were hitting thunderbolts from all angles, he was equal to the task 👊🏻🧤

Every Scorpion today gave 100% and as coaches we are so pleased with how they listen, learn and then put into practice the things we cover in training.  Player of the match could’ve been any one of eight solid players today. As has been said before, William quietly gets on with being a great defender and team player 👊🏻  well done Will 👍🏻

⚽️🖤💛⚽️
