Match Report NMJFC Scorpions U10 vs Buxton Comets U10 - 17/11/24

Driving from a rainy New Mills to a bright Glossopdale made a good change. The team were chomping at the bit to get playing again given some of them had missed training due to being on a school residential trip.

We nearly had a full house (except Rocco K) today.

We kicked off with Frankie the Cat in goal, Will and Callum at the back and Ted playing his familiar CM role. Alfie and Dylan on the wings and Rocco T as the Lone Ranger upfront.

We kicked off and put Buxton under pressure quite early with Rocco charging though and hitting a shot just wide.  Straight down the other end and Frankie was called into action to save from a Buxton corner.

This team are getting tighter each week and are now knowing where their teammates are going to be to play into space and keep the forward momentum. Ted won the ball and had a shot which brought a great save from the Buxton keeper (who made some cracking saves throughout the game)

More great play on the left from Dylan, some trickery and a pass to Rocco who hit home a great goal ⚽️

This seemed to spark Rocco into life as he had another great shot which the keeper saved.  We were having a lot of success on the left with Dylan (who’d said he was tired …. Yeah right Dylan) he battled past a Buxton defender, cut across and hit a sweet goal from the tightest of angles ⚽️ (and did the griddy to celebrate I believe)

Subs were made with Leo on for Alfie and Davyd on for Cal. Leo got into the action soon enough and fired in a cross which Rocco didn’t get a clean connection on.  More pressure from the Scorpions and a break on the right, Leo took it past the last Buxton defender and scored ⚽️

Dayvd is becoming more and more confident with each game. His gameplay with shadowing the ball and not allowing the opposition to get near it is fantastic 👍🏻

The second half was underway (quick swap with Alfie on for Dylan and Callum on for Ted) and Frankie was needed, a corner came across and he plucked it out of the air calm as you like 👍🏻

More great work in midfield with Callum pushing forward making space, Leo knocked the ball across to the far post where Alfie ghosted in and had a lovely left foot finish ⚽️

Another few quick subs saw Ted wanting to make his mark on this game and Dylan wanting to be back in the thick of it. Ted is a wonderful player who will run and run and give 100% every time.  Today was no different and he soon hit a long range cracker which sailed past the Buxton keeper ⚽️

Buxton pressed on the attack but Dylan saw the danger and sprinted back to cover the defenders…. He won the ball and played it back upfield which is exactly what the coaches have wanted from the wingers this season …. Brilliant.

Another switch around saw us move Will upfront. This player hits top bins In training frequently but plays solidly week after week in defence. Today, everything came together.

Will was pushing forward with the ball, knocked it through to Leo who hit his 2nd ⚽️  the team really had the hunger. More fantastic play from Dylan on the left taking on one, then another Buxton defender ….. passed across for the striker ……..and Will hit a screamer 🚀 ⚽️

One of the coaches (me) was going bonkers ..and got a bit emotional… so pleased for Will.

The Scorpions weren’t finished yet… pushing forward and the ball came over the top…. Will controlled it and could’ve pressed on and had a shot, but he unselfishly passed it through for Leo to smash it into the bottom corner for his hat trick ⚽️

This was without doubt the most comprehensive team performance by the Scorpions 🦂

They listened, communicated and played some of the best passing we’ve seen this season.

PoTM was a close call for the coaches….. but this became a players player of the match… everyone was pleased for William 👍🏻👊🏻🏆

⚽️🖤💛⚽️
