Today’s match saw a promising line-up, welcoming back Seren, who started the game in net, after a three-week break, and she was determined to make her mark.
In defence, Ava and Annabella paired up at the back, and they’re rapidly becoming a rock-solid defensive duo, reading each other’s movements well and making it difficult for the opposition to break through.
Jessica held down the left side with some nice touches and well-timed tackles, while Paige, in the center, was dynamic and proactive, pushing forward on several strong runs and fighting hard for possession.
On the right, Ebony impressed with her speed and tenacity, delivering some robust tackles and smart passes.
Poppy, leading the line, kept the Young Bucks’ defenders under constant pressure, giving them no time to settle on the ball.
As the first half progressed, Emily was introduced on the left, dropping back into defence when needed and beginning to find her voice in communication with her teammates. Later, Millie came on, adding fresh energy with some well-timed defensive tackles and powerful kicks, transitioning smoothly from midfield to attack.
Seren made some good saves in the first half.
The second half saw Poppy take over in goal, and she did not disappoint. Showing no fear, she saved confidently and distributed the ball with precision, keeping Buxton on their toes. Emily worked tirelessly in defence, adjusting well to the intensity of the game. The play evened out in the midfield, with Paige and Ebony, connecting with smart, controlled passes. At one point, Ebony whipped a stunning cross into the box, a beautiful piece of skill that had clearly been honed on the training ground.
Millie was a force in midfield, picking up the ball cleanly and powering forward with intent, slipping past several opponents and delivering a well-aimed shot on target. Jessica’s and Seren’s efforts and hard work were evident throughout, as they contributed to the team’s fluidity. Soon it was our girls time to shine, starting with Ava showing her versatility by making an assertive run forward, followed by a precise and skilful shot up front, but when her attempt rebounded, Annabella was perfectly positioned to seize the opportunity, expertly finding the back of the net.
This week Annabella was awarded Player of the Week for her standout performance. Her positioning was excellent, and her decision-making demonstrated a growing awareness of when to hold back or step up. The girls played well today, and their growing understanding of the game each week is making the matches exciting and captivating to watch. Well done girls!
