Match Report NMJFC U10 Girls vs Macclesfield Town Ladies U10s 08/03/2025

On International Women’s Day, it was a fitting occasion to celebrate the fantastic girls taking to the pitch, showcasing their talent and passion for the game at a time when girls' football continues to thrive.

Before kick-off, a poignant minute’s silence was observed in memory of 10-year-old Poppy Atkinson, who tragically passed away this week. The moment of reflection was a touching tribute to a young life gone too soon.

With limited numbers from Macclesfield, the match was played as a 6-a-side contest, which led to a fast-paced and competitive game. Jessica took her place in goal and delivered an excellent performance. When called upon, she collected the ball with confidence and distributed it effectively to her teammates. A standout moment came when she denied a one-on-one opportunity, keeping her team in control.

At the back, Annabella and Ava formed a rock-solid defensive partnership. Both displayed great reading of the game, knowing exactly when to drop back and when to push forward, without any instruction. Annabella was fearless in her tackles and tussles, while Ava mirrored her frequently drove the ball forward, turning defense into attack.

On the wings, Seren and Poppy put in tireless performances. Seren was dynamic on the left, making strong tackles, embarking on determined runs, and testing the opposition with shots on goal. Poppy, still developing her game, showed an outstanding work rate and continues to grow in confidence each week, making valuable contributions on the right flank.

Leading the line was Emily, who held up play brilliantly and made several incisive runs, keeping the Macclesfield defense under constant pressure. However, the visitors had an exceptionally strong goalkeeper who kept her side in the match with some fantastic saves.

A seamless transition saw Ebony replace Annabella, and slotted into defense and even attemped an ambitious shot from the halfway line.

Millie came on for Poppy, making energetic runs down the right and getting some shots away. Up front, Paige replaced Emily, showcasing excellent touches, pressing well, and creating goal-scoring opportunities.

The second half saw further rotations, with Emily stepping into goal and displaying confidence in sweeping up loose balls and coming off her line decisively. Annabella moved up front and immediately became a menace for the Macclesfield defence, firing several shots on goal.

Ebony was effective down the byline, linking up play well, while Ava came close with a powerful strike that the keeper managed to parry away.

Poppy moved into defence, where she put in a strong performance, cutting out threats and passing forward with composure.

It was an entertaining and competitive match, one that was thoroughly enjoyed by players, coaches, and spectators alike. Always a pleasure when opposition managers acknowledge the quality and enjoyment of the game.

POTW was awarded to Poppy, who was a relentless presence on the right side and stepped up impressively when moved into defense, clearing up danger with confidence. A fantastic performance from the entire team, making for an enjoyable game to both manage and watch.
