It is ‘Trophy Event’ time in The Stockport Metro League and The Hornets are grouped with Reddish NE, Offerton Park and todays opponents Adswood United. Everything about this season is new. New venue, new league, new opponents, new tournaments and new refs……
March hasn’t gone exactly to plan and we’ve had a couple of tough games against two teams from Tytherington that play good football. This is the level we will reach and we are learning more in every individual game about each other than we did in an entire season last year.
Ronan 🏆 was POTM against Tytherington AFC at the start of the month and is in fine form right now. Oliver L 🏆 was POTM against Tytherington 1987 for a superb second-half goalkeeping display, epitomising the modern sweeper-keeper and allowing our defence to get more forward.
Our focus this morning was all about our attacking flair. We’re solid at the back normally but in recent games we’ve needed some creative magic upfront. The boys have been training hard and we want our forward players to come back and look for the ball more rather than waiting upfront for ‘The Long Ball Over The Top’. Unfortunately, our opponents today were the masters of this and it felt like we were playing The Crazy Gang for those who remember the Wimbledon team of the 90’s. Ball after ball was launched forward and we simply couldn’t judge the bounce and with a couple of quick forwards, The Millers were found wanting.
Half-time couldn’t come quick enough and although The Hornets looked the better team, we were missing the end product.
Ronan The Rocket answered our prayers with the goal of the season! This boy has a wand of a left foot and he hit the most magical strike from distance and lobbed the Adswood keeper. Absolutely superb Rocket. Just another reason to celebrate St. Patricks Weekend for our Celtic Wizard.
Fenn 🏆 was also producing some spell bounding tricks between the posts and simply refused to be beaten. He won our POTM award for an heroic performance in net and appeared to be in his element during ‘Silent Saturday’ when the spectators were asked to be quiet and only applaud the kids performances. Top-Class Fenn, keep it up mate.
Five games left to get going boys. We need to remember how far we have come, how good we can be and what got us there.
