Match Report NMJFC U10s Scorpions v Buxton Comets U10 - 23/02/25

The conditions were awful up at Glossopdale for the 12 o’clock kick off, it was blowing a gale …. But this didn’t dampen the Scorpions fire 🔥
We were a little changed today with Rocco T and Frankie the Cat unavailable (and by default coach Jordan was also unavailable….. we all hope baby Ezra had a fantastic day)
We lined up with Dayvd taking the gloves and being brave enough to go in goal 🧤, Will and Callum shoring up the defence, Ted in his CAM / CDM role…. Our box to box midfielder.
Leo and Dylan our flying wingers and Alfie our Lone Ranger as striker. Frankie H was brought in to give us some breathing space. A quick team talk before kick off so everyone knew the task….start quick and keep momentum.
The Scorpions started like lightning….. an early run from Dylan saw his looping shot cleared off the line. More possession out on the right and another shot from Dylan was saved by the Buxton keeper. Our tails were definitely full of ‘sting’ … Ted won the ball and played a great pass to Leo who clicked into top gear and buried a great goal ⚽️
Another ball out wide on the left saw Leo take it forward, pass through to Alfie who saw his shot saved. Alfie was his tenacious self constantly chasing and tackling all afternoon.
Ted….. what can I say… needs reining in every so often, but when he’s on fire…. He’s our Paul Lake (look Lakey up… that’s a huge compliment) he picked up the ball in midfield, did a great turn and ran at the defence…. Out on the right.. then hit a cracker into the goal ⚽️
Quick swap with Rocco K coming on for Alfie who had run and run. Another midfield battle with the ball breaking to Rocco K… now, he’s not our usual Rocco who plays upfront … but we got the same end result with the ball buried in the back of the net ⚽️ (great to get Rocco K off the mark for the season) Dylan was working his magic on the right and displayed a delightful bit of skill to take on the defender and send a cross into the box 👍🏻
Once again, Ted was looking to get forward, took on a player and then hit a shot which cannoned in off the crossbar ⚽️
The defence of Callum and Will were staying strong and making the crucial tackles when they were called upon. Will is this teams unsung hero, he’s quiet.. but super confident on the pitch… and will run and tackle 👊🏻
A swap with Frankie on for Will to give him a rest and to see out the first half. Frankie was solid as always and will always look for the forward pass. Callum was his usual ‘Mr Ice’ persona and didn’t give up.
2nd half - change around with Ted swapping with Will and Alfie back in his favoured position on the wing.
The scorpions took a little longer to get going in the second half…. However their second attack was a delight, Ted got the ball, passed out to Leo…. Who ran forward and passed back to Ted… who ran forward and passed back to Leo, who crossed back into the Buxton box …. Outstanding football from these ballers 👍🏻
A long throw from Frankie to Leo who steamed along the touch line and sent in a cross that Rocco K got on the end of to make it 2 for him today ⚽️. Rocco was immense today, played upfront and when needed, dropped back into defence.
Confident play from the Scorpions, calm, passing and finding space. Will and Callum were both immense 👊🏻
Ted came back on and made an instant impact… he, like all of his teammates just love football… and he made it count…. A goalmouth scramble and Ted hits home for his treble 👍🏻⚽️.
This was a reassuring team performance from the Scorpions 🦂 they played as a solid unit.
PoTM was a close call (yet again) Ted, after a chat at half time…. Came back on a different player and made us all smile 👍🏻 (Dayvd who was happy to go in goal was also a close call as he did so well 👍🏻)
