First game of the new league and unfortunately not the start we wanted. The boys started slow and invited the opposition to control the game.
Wythenshawe were gifted 3 goals in the first 15 minutes, even though the third goal was offside it was the wake up call the boys needed.
To see the team battle their way back into the game was fantastic.
New Mills upped the tempo and pressured the opposition goal. Two quick goals from Jimmy and Remo brought the Millers back in the game and only for some fantastic saves from the opposition keeper New Mills could feel aggrieved not to be leading going into the half time break.
The second half was nearly identical to the first. For some reason the boys couldn’t get going and when they finally did they found themselves 5-2 down. Again trailing by three goals seemed to give the boys some energy to get going again.
Piling the pressure on the opposition goals Remo hammered in his 2nd of the game to give us hope of a comeback with 15 minutes left to play. Unfortunately for the Millers, every attack was met with more fantastic saves by a very impressive keeper in the opposition goals today.
Although the boys were disappointed to lose, there were definitely some positives to take from today’s game to bring into the rest of the season.
