GOAL FEST of a game! Early KO and the girls were wild pre-match but got on with it when the whistle went.
Playing eight sided due to lack of players for Mountfield.
A debut for Alissa who took up the position of striker, maybe that fast finishing training session earlier in the week contributed to today but two minutes in, and Jaz is rattling the back of the netting with an assist from Scarlett, our Captain for today.
Be hard pressed to not repeat myself with the number of goals scored today, so despite the scoreline they played some nice football and again, important to us coaches, communicated and supported each other and kept it positive.
Massive shout out to Mountfield who maintained a fab attitude throughout.
Highlights throughout the game were movement off the ball and keeping the opposition out of our half, our poor keeper, Taylor, spent most of the game twiddling her thumbs with a couple of cartwheels thrown in the mix, but when called upon was fast out the goal mouth and covering the ball with her body, you are fearless, much better with goal kick decisions too, stopped three short sharp shots one after the other in second half, with one of them taking her off her feet. Well done Tay.
Scarlett played a great through ball for Alissa to get on the end of and slot it home for her first goal for the team.
Exciting to see Scarlett, Jaz, Ellie and Alissa as a fast-paced attacking set. Couple more for Jaz with one from an awkward angle, buzzing for your self-assured football so far this season, strong shots, strong passing and strong crossing to boot.
Scarlett over the other side again having confidence to keep the ball at her feet and move with pace to cover good ground to get in the vital crosses, loving it.
Another strong player with Ellie who wins the midfield battle every time and upped her goal tally today, think she claimed it as a left footer too!
Del bagged another that saw us into a comfortable half time and opportunity to make the challenge of keeping a clean sheet and getting other players on the scoreboard.
Another for Jaz straight off, Ellie again with a beautiful move of the ball from one foot to the other, looked up, smashed it past the keeper.
Could we stay high? Could we get those other players on the ball? Twice more for Del, first hattrick.
Lovely chip over players and into the back of the net for Nieve, seems to be your style of scoring, don’t look so surprised, it was a class shot.
Moved positions for many 2nd half just to seize opportunity, resulting in a well celebrated first goal for Izzy, well deserved too, another Jaz assist.
Pushed Lily from her usual defensive position to winger who had a couple of good chances but was happy to drop back again and played some calm, well thought football to keep the ball in play and back up the pitch, great play Lily well done!
Mia nursing a bit of an injury but still played great football and took on players.
Georgie marked in central position very well second half, also unlucky not to score in the goal mouth near the end.
Alissa fast off her mark to also secure a hattrick and just to pop the cherry on the cake Jaz clocked up a personal best with a total of 5 just before the full time whistle.
Doesn’t always sit right when the score line is like that but it’s given them confidence and they worked hard for it, they played some lovely football and worked together with challenges set. Let's take that drive into out next game which will be tough, a win would take us joint top.
I’ll take pre-match wildness all day long if that’s the result they can pull off.
Well done every single one of you but our player of the match today, on her debut, (just keep your hands down ha ha), great to watch, lovely partnerships with Ellie, Jaz & Scarlett to fulfil the job of striker is Alissa, aka Russo. Well done. 👏🏻
