Match Report NMJFC U12s cup semi final v Whaley Bridge - 03/03/24

After falling short the day before the Millers started the Sunday cup semi final determined to earn a spot in the final.

Hazza commanded his area and started attacks well, the defence of Lincoln, Cole and Bobby looked assured.

Bertie and Darragh were a threat down both wings with Indi and Jess bossing midfield and setting up attacks and also screening the defence superbly.

Freddie worked the opposition back line hard and was unlucky not score on a few occasions.

The Millers opened the scoring with a superb long range strike from Darragh.

Further chances came and went with Whaley a constant threat on the break leading into half time.

Tommy came on at left back and Stan took the striker role for the start of the second half.

The Millers were caught by two quick goals and quickly found themselves behind.

The response was instant as Bertie was fouled in the box and skipper Bobby calmly slotted the penalty home for 2 - 2.

The Millers played some good football at this point as Stan linked the play superbly as Jess and Indi probed for an opening for the Millers.

Bertie found the opening with a strong run and cross which was deflected home by an unfortunate Whaley player.

The Millers started to dominate and Gregory came on and made an instant impact scoring calmly into the corner for a 4-2 lead.

Whaley continued to battle hard and got a third with a superb finish.

Ryan came into midfield and defended superbly to help the back line as  Indi moved to right back.

The Millers reacted quickly to the Whaley third as Bertie smashed home at the near post for a fifth for the Millers.

This time the Millers killed the game off as Gregory scored his second and the final spot was secured.

This group continue to surprise the coaches with their resilience determination and general attitude to the game and richly deserved their place in the cup final.

Player of the game could have gone to anyone but the parents decided Indi had run herself in to the ground for the team so she took the award.

A fantastic reaction to yesterdays narrow defeat from the team and great sportsmanship shown by our team after the game towards Whaley players makes the coaches very proud of the team we have become.

Onto to the final now 👊

Up the millers 💛🖤
