Match report NMJFC U12s Girls - 13/01/24
V Richmond Rovers
We sat two points ahead of the Richmond team going into this game with us in 3rd and them 4th in the table.
Unfortunately, was a loss for the mighty Millers girls if you’re looking at the scoreline but by no means a loss in the way they all played.
Giving credit where it’s due despite not being able to squeeze through the Richmond defence to find a goal, both sets of coaches said it was a fantastic game and we definitely felt we played the better football.
There were many great moments and skill on the ball, Nieve and Ellie dominated the midfield, Nieve organised and kept up the spirits of her teammates.
Our back line of Mia, Lily and Izzy worked well together with covering and pressure and with plenty of positive encouragement which was great to hear.
Taylor making some great saves too. Both our wingers Jaz & Scarlett had a tough job and seemed to be stuck with many 2v1s but still they dug deep, their quality of crossing in the long balls and through balls for the upfront players again, lovely to watch. Our up-front players of Georgie, Delilah & Alissa persevered and took chances when they could, above all the whole team worked hard up to the final whistle.
Not so much to say at half time except could we switch it up a gear which we felt they did, great decision making throughout the whole game. They created opportunities as a team but the points were not ours today. Post match chat and coaches and players agreed that the loss was not too bad because they played their socks off.
Be proud of yourselves girls, you gave us all a great game to watch and we’re still 3rd in the table although we now share that ranking with the Richmond side.
Set with a challenge of utilising the space in front of her which we’ve started working on in training, pure graft, shutting down and beating the opposition in her defensive position and much more, our player of the match today went to Lily. Well done & well deserved.
