Match Report NMJFC U12s girls - 28/10/23
Early start and a great watch! The whole of the Millers side worked hard for each throughout the whole game. Still working on using the width of the pitch and our wingers Jaz & Scarlett along with the full backs of Lily, Mia & in the second half Georgie working well to create space for our midfield to enable us to keep a high press.
Took 15 minutes before anyone found the back of the net which unfortunately came from Richmond. Not for want of trying from the New Mills girls who throughout the game took opportunities left right and centre, we hit the cross bar 3 times. A powerful shot from Ellie would’ve been the goal of the season with great comments from the Richmond managers too, but the ball just didn’t want to find the back of the net and ricocheted off the underside of the bar until Jaz got hold of it and levelled the score with an assist from Scarlett.
Captain today was Nieve who is doing exactly what we need from our CDM. Total belief that you would excel in that position, and you have made it your own without doubt, an absolute work horse in today’s match and supported and lead with great Captain skills.
We seem to be confident in the high press this season and with that security in our back line of Izzy, Lily and Mia/Georgie we’re able to dominate play.
Half time, what’s to say? Keep your heads, keep giving it your all and they did just that.
Great energy second half, determination from Ellie with frustration setting in, she was supposed to leave early but there was no chance we’d have got her off the pitch!
Second half and again, Jaz’s ability to keep the ball at her feet, shield, hold up a very physical opponent, keep possession and make the pass is very clever, holding up play for Ellie or Nieve as a waiting option is confident football. Likewise, Scarlett’s pace on right wing, ability to travel with the ball and get a last-minute whip into the box is great! Alissa sitting in as striker again but did a sterling job of getting the ball out from her feet and wide when the middle was congested.Second half highlights too from Izzy whose calmness to draw in a player and get the through ball is fantastic, another also being Lily’s strength on the ball, you seem confident in that defending position lately and have great control and passing.
We’ve been working on keeping possession and having purpose to the pass, second half one touch, tight space passing showed impressive football, perhaps kept hold of it a little too long in the box at some points but nevertheless it’s an enjoyable watch and we can see that you’re trusting each other which is so important and something to build on.
Richmond managed to score but a shout out to our Tay between the sticks, say it every week, just fearless and makes some incredible saves! A proper cheeky goal from Nieve right off the back line which curled straight in and over the line left us wondering how, brilliant!
Both sides then seemed to find another gear to get the winning goal…just wasn’t going to be for us this time.
One of the best games of football we’ve seen for a long time, excited for this team this season, really enjoying watching them and putting what they’ve done in training into matches.
How they support and work together is superb. Some little tweaks to take into our next training session and we’re good to go again!
Impressive stuff all round today girls but for her sheer work ethic, communication, confidence on the ball and, as usual, positivity, our Player of the Match goes to Nieve.
