New Mills 5 Wythenshawe Tigers 3

The Milllers started fast and played some great passing football. They pressed their opponents back and created several opportunities to take the lead but for some reason the ball would not cross the line.

From what could have been a commanding lead after 10 minutes, it was Wythenshawe who took the lead, with their first chance of the game. This didn’t faze the boys who continued to push forward at every chance and eventually it was Tyler who smashed a lovely shot to the back of the net to level the game.

Again as the Millers pushed forward it left plenty of space at the back and it was Wythenshawe with a carbon copy of the first goal, long kick out, flicked behind our defence for the striker to run clear and take the lead just before half time.

A little frustrated at half time the boys were told to keep playing their game, they were doing very little wrong and they would get more chances. And this was correct, it was Remo from the first attack of the second half who put the Millers on level terms.

The game got scrappy for the next 10 or 15 minutes with New Mills looking tired and not as slick with their passing gave the opponents some space and again they took the lead. With 10 minutes to play and a goal behind the boys upped their game and Max scored to level the game for a third time.

New Mills then found another gear and pushed forward a winner. Remo got the Millers 4th with some individual magic before finishing low to the corner giving the goalkeeper no chance.

As Wythenshawe pushed for an equaliser it gave the Millers space to counter attack at speed and it was Max who added a fifth.

The ‘brainmat’ man of the match was Oli C, who like so many games this season owned his area, pulled off a some great saves and played a sweeper role to perfection. Well done Oli.
