A wet winters morning in Woodley was the venue for our last game of a successful 2024 for this great team.
The boys started fast, keeping the ball on the ground and playing their lovely pass and move style of football.
The first half was all New Mills, and it’s didn’t take them long to get on the scoreboard. Remo was given a little space and boy did he take advantage, breaking from midfield and finishing calmly to the bottom corner. Oli C controlled his goals mixing up his kick outs, utilising defensive pairings Leighton, Brody and Joseph to keep their opponents guessing.
Oli F, Harry F and Lucas were running the wings, while Jimmy, Harry P and Bobby created a solid midfield to let Remo have a free role upfront to exploit the space left by a high pressing Wythenshawe team.
This was perfect for Remo who bagged himself a hat trick in the first half and along with a smashing free kick from Harry P gave the Millers a 4-2 lead at half time.
Wythenshawe tried to up the tempo in the second half and played high long balls as they could not break down the barriers of passionate Millers in their way today, but the boys were in no mood to get dragged into a scrappy game, they wanted to finish the year in style, and so do Remo who wasn’t happy with just one hat trick he added another in the second half and Bobby was also on the scoresheet to round off a brilliant team performance.
The ‘brainmat’ man of the match was Oli F. Well done Oli, you were fantastic on the wing today. Well done.
The coaches are very proud of this team and would like to wish them and their families a very Happy Christmas. Thank you for all your support over the past year and we looked forward to seeing and hearing you back on the sidelines supporting these boys next year.
