Match Report U6s vs Bramhall North 75U6s – Stockport Powerleague 18/5/24 – 10.40am KO

Today the U6s continued their Summer League games at the Powerleague on another beautiful day in Stockport.

We spoke to the team beforehand about making sure we kept well hydrated and took breaks during the game, and to make sure we played the game today with enjoyment and had fun playing the game we all love.

Again, both teams agreed to play 6 so we started with Kingsley in goal for the first half, Lily on the right, Logan as centre back with Leo on the left.

Jude and Lexi began as our forward options with Kit, Elliott and Thomas ready to come on and make a difference from the bench.

We kicked off and immediately and Bramhall put us under some early pressure.

The team tried to drive forward straight away and after some good link up between Logan and Leo, Jude was away and able to get his shot away which was deflected away for a corner.  Every week Jude is getting his shots off and that goal is coming for him any day. The game proceeded end to end with Kingsley making some saves, Logan making some tackles and blocks in the centre and Lily trying to push forward on the right.  Lexi was her usual vibrant self in the middle trying to get involved as much as possible.  The heat was getting tough now and we brought Kit, Elliott and Thomas on for Jude, Lexi and Leo.  The subs immediately had an impact pushing us forward.  Lily managed to win the ball in midfield and set Elliott away on one of his mazy runs.  After passing a couple of defenders he got his shot away for a superb goal. This gave the team a lift and further attacking play followed with Elliott having another effort at goal.  Kit was battling hard in midfield and Thomas provided new energy on the left.  Some great work from throw-ins pushed us forward and a great throw-in from Thomas allowed Leo to break through the defence to score his first goal of the season – Well done Leo!

Half-time arrived at the wrong time for the Mini-Millers as the momentum was with them.  A few more subs and Kingsley came out giving the gloves to Lexi for the second half.  Kingsley played as centre back and showed his ability with the ball trying to set New Mills on attacks.  Kit was in the middle, desperate to get himself a goal but Bramhall defended resolutely in the 2nd half, with many shots being deflected away.  Lily was brought on in the centre and immediately provided lots of energy winning the ball and trying to push the ball out to Leo, Jude, Thomas and Logan who played wide in the 2nd period.  Bramhall attacks came frequently in the 2nd half and on several occasions Lexi was very brave to make some big saves off the powerful shots.  The heat though was tough for the Mini-Millers and we made sure to rotate a lot to give plenty of breaks from the sun.

Overall another fantastic performance and superb effort from the Mini-Millers in tough conditions.  The whole team did great with Kingsley & Lexi performing amazing in goal, Logan marshalling the back line supremely, quality finishing from Elliott and Leo, excellent tackling, passing and dribbling from Thomas, Jude, Kit & Lily.

Another week and another great experience for the Mini-Millers to build on the confidence ready for their first full season… Well done U6s!!
