This weekend was slightly different for The Miniest of all The Millers as The U7’s were without their goal-scoring machine!
Coach Rick was also missing so we called upon the experience of Coach Filippo from the U9’s to help out this wonderful group.
Phil’s first observation was how impressed he was with the skill-set this team have. Not just on the pitch where they show passion & determination. It was also evident when talking to the boys in our Warm-Up, Pre-Match & Half-Time team chats. This group are learning quick and on Sunday they showed us all how good they are.
Reuben offered to go in goal first and was utterly incredible! Time after time, he saved us and Reuben wasn’t just stopping the shot on goal, he was pushing the ball away to safety and allowing the defenders time to recover. He was in his element!
Defensively, we switched it around between Max, Teddy & Ned. Everyone of them brought their A-Game and made incredible tackles to break up the Chapel attacks. All three of them are also capable of bringing the ball forward and setting up attacks and this something we will work on in training.
In attack we had Myles & Ryan with Teddy & Reuben joining them late on. How that ball never found the back of the net was staggering! We hit the posts, Cross-bar, post & Cross-bar again. The Chapel keeper was also having a great match and was up for everything we could throw at him.
Aiden took his place in goal in the second-half and did his best to keep the ball out of the net. He also showed us how is improving with his footwork. He started some great Millers attacks from his goal-kicks.
Come the final whistle, there was almost nothing in it. Everysingle one the boys stood-up and was counted this week. Every single one of them gave 100% and never gave-up! They showed us all how much they have improved and they can be very proud of themselves. I can’t wait for out next match . . . .against Chapel Yellows.
Player of the Match was selected by Coach Filippo. He was blown away by the lads team-spirit and how hard they work for each other. One star shone brighter than everyone else, it was Reuben🏆 in goal and he couldn’t have been happier to receive it. Massive smiles on all the boys faces as they left the field and the future looks bright for this set of super-stars!
