This week our U7s started their first Trophy Event with the Metro League. 6 games plus a final to finish the season and to provide the final tests and lessons to be learnt.
We went up against new opponents in Didsbury FC and we were missing our John Terry at the back in Leo who was unwell.
We started with Elliott in goal, Logan centre back, Captain Jude on the left, Thomas on the right, with Lily and Kingsley further forward. Kit & Alistair would be our game changers this week.
The first half was a close tense game with both sides trying to get their respective games going. Elliott was tough to beat in goal and had Logan determined not let anything past him.
Logan opened the scoring after a corner was cleared to him and he fired in from distance. Thomas was as industrious as ever on the right with Jude likewise on the left. Both were supporting Logan at the back but trying to get forward too. Lily was everywhere in the first half taking players on and driving forward with the ball. Unfortunately, she got a ball to the face but was super brave to carry on.
Kingsley has been working on his passing and it showed as he was trying hard to link the game further forward. Kit and Alistair came in to give Thomas and Jude a rest with Alistair left and Kit right. They set about their work well with Alistair having a chance to score but unluckily for him, some great defending from Didsbury stopped his shot. Keep working Alistair that goal is coming!
Kit was creative as ever, taking players on and trying to get his crosses in.
Half time came in the blink of an eye. While the team took on fluids, we wanted them to remember to keep working hard for each other, remember to get our tackles in and keep enjoying the game. Captain Jude took the gloves for the second half determined to keep shots out.
The second half was the polar opposite of the first half. It was open and end to end. It was a sky sports special half filled with great football and lots of action from both teams. Some highlights from the second half, goals from Logan and Kingsley but goal of the day was from Elliott. A corner from Logan came in and bounced up next to him, super adjustment to “bicey” the ball into the bottom corner.
Other highlights were great passing play down both wings with Alistair, Thomas, Elliott and Kingsley all involved. Kit patrolled the defence well with some super tackling and clearances. Jude was super between the sticks belting every ball he could high and wide. Logan and Lily put in the hard yards in the middle but linked well with their wide players as did Alistair when he took his turn further forward.
Overall another great game of football was certainly enjoyed by all. At the final whistle all players shook hands and walked off with smiles together, we know we’ll be playing Didsbury again in a few weeks and look forward to another great game of football.
