What better way to celebrate Mothers Day than losing an hour in bed and mooching up to Glossop... the clocks had gone forward so it was pretty much the early kick off 😴😴
Coach Joe was away on a scouting mission so it was Jose Tom-inho and Louis van-Wayno in the dugout, coaches Tom and Wayne for those that don't speak the lingo!
Finn was unavailable this week, as was Teddy who was a big miss, against a Glossop team that like to press high up the pitch we missed his line breaking passes. Ned was back in the mixer which meant the half time Oranges wouldn't go to waste 🫠
Reuben made a bright start with some cracking saves, diving down low to tip a couple of great early efforts around the post. With the wind against us in the first half he couldn't do anything about the first goal, a shot straight from the kick-in which looped over his head, with the players as confused as the coaches the referees decision is final, the goal stood and we will always respect that 🫡
With the wind on our side in the 2nd half it gave Reuben a chance to send some goal kicks forward, you can't beat a bit of route one Stoke ball sometimes... have it! ⚽️
Max took the responsibility to carry us out of danger in the first half, we had to keep it on the deck as everytime his clearance went long the wind would blow it back!
He took full advantage in the 2nd half having the wind behind us, he sent every kick-in towards their goal, our attackers just couldn't judge the bounce on the ball but we were secretly hoping one of them snook in!
He battled hard with their big lads and stood his ground, brilliant effort Max 💪🏻
It didn't take Glossop long to identify our danger man... as soon as Myles picked the ball up at the back he had 2 or 3 players pressing him.
He's good with his feet though, so time and time again his pace and trickery got him out of trouble.
Unable to get his shots off today but he was eager as ever to set up his team mates, another positive performance and it's been an absolute pleasure to have Myles back for a decent run of games ⭐️
Ryan was a constant outlet on our left hand side, as always making himself available for our defenders when they were up against it.
We needed him to get stuck into his tackles when we came under pressure and he didn't let us down!
He got a lovely assist for our first goal right before half time, taking on his man and driving a powerful cross into the box for Harrison to slot home, keep whipping them balls in Ryan 📡
He's running away with the golden boot award this season and Harrison added another couple to his tally!
A goal either side of half time for the little tank, perfect timing!
He was brilliant in the 2nd half, pressing high up the pitch and forcing Glossop into mistakes, it lifted the rest of the team when we really needed it! 🎯
Playing 6 a side gave us the opportunity to play Aiden in the middle of the pitch, freedom to roam into space.
He showed enthusiasm when he came on and was eager to get involved.
Keep listening to the coaches and concentrating as hard as you can pal, great effort today 😎
Word on the street was that Mia scored a hatrick for the girls team on Saturday, go on Mia!
She was back with the lads this morning and although she wasn't on the scoresheet she certainly left her mark on the pitch.
We've asked Mia in recent weeks to be more aggressive, be strong and don't let the boys shove her about. She was brilliant today in that area, getting stuck into tackles and using her arms to get across players, big up Mia 👊🏼
Ned was our captain for the day, el capitano!
I cut his hair on Thursday so he was more aero dynamic... fast as lightning... proper rapid mate... but most importantly he just looked hard!
We know what to expect from Ned, no nonsense defending, if the ball is there to be won he's steaming in.
We asked him to be more composed today, get your foot on the ball, head up and pick your passes. He did just that in the first half, playing some great passes down the wing to Myles.
After a strong finish to the game it was Ned who was our player of the match, the coaches have loved watching Ned's progress this season, he's really enjoying his football of late and it shows on the pitch every week.
Keep working on the fundamentals Neddles and the rest will follow 🏆
Sometimes you just can't put your finger on it but it was a flat start from us today but it's how you finish the race that really matters, the kids showed great character to come out in the 2nd half and fight for every ball, a pleasure to watch!
It's no surprise that some of the kids look knackered after some super intense games in recent weeks, we need a big push now as we head into the end of the season, get them oranges down you, scoff the jaffa cakes, dig deep and empty the tank and as always... enjoy yourselves 💛🖤
