Match Report NMJFC U8s - 02/12/23

Match Report NMJFC U8s - 02/12/23

Even though it was a lunchtime kickoff, there was still plenty of frost about for our 12:20 kick off against Great Moor County JFC Panthers, in the Stockport Metro league at Brinnington.

Today we were missing both Stanley and James through illness and we had only our remaining 5 ready to start. With our top goal scorer and goalkeeper missing, we knew it was going to be a tough game for us.

We started with Charlie T in goal, Rhys (c) in defence, Teddy and Jackson in midfield and Charlie J as striker. Due to the cold weather we had agreed to rotate our goal keeper to avoid anybody getting cold.

Great Moor kicked off and the Millers started to build some good passing moves, both teams needling away to see who would break first.

Unfortunately for us, it was Great Moor who got the first goal, they took a corner which was deflected into our own net.

I think the boys used this early setback to push on and a few minutes later it was Charlie J who managed to get us back on level terms.

This must have rattled Great Moor as they seemed to change tack and were now moving the ball well and shooting from long range, probably because they were having no luck getting the ball past Rhys in defence.

They were hitting the ball really well and with a couple of top corner strikes they were cruising.

A change around at the back with Rhys taking his turn in goal and Charlie T moving into defence, the team were working together well, a great ball up the line from Charlie T to Teddy, and Teddy played in Charlie J for a wonderful finish.

By the know the game was back and forth with many chances created at both ends. Just before the half time whistle, we formed another attack with Jackson getting in and scoring his first goal. Well done Jackson !

Our half time team talk was full of praise and about pushing on together. Jackson took his turn in net with Rhys going into Midfield.

The second half the Millers came out like a different team, they were attacking relentlessly, one of Charlie J’s shots being to hot to handle, the Great Moor keeper couldn’t keep hold of it and spilled it (briefly) over the line.

More attacking continued with Teddy being the fall guy, he was putting in some great runs up and down the wing to get the ball in to Charlie, and unfortunately taking quite a few bruises on the way. Perfect timing to take his turn in net.

Jackson returned to midfield and the boys continued the onslaught.

As there little legs tired Great Moor started pressing more, and we were reliant on some superb defending from Charlie T and Rhys.

A fantastic game today with the kids giving it there all. They didn’t stop and continued right to the end, today was another occasion where they all deserved player of the match so that’s what we decided.

Well done boys !
