Match Report NMJFC U8s - 09/12/23
A very wet start for the 9am kick off at Brinnington against Great Moor County Pumas in the Stockport Metro Knock out cup.
We were missing Jackson today, but welcomed James and Stanley back into the team.
We had played the Great Moor Pumas a couple of times last week, so knew we would need to be at our best to get a result today.
We started out with James on goal, Rhys in defence, Teddy and Stanley in midfield and Charlie J as striker.
From the off, the pumas were attacking, and trying to keep the ball in our half. Fortunately the boys stayed calm and managed to build a couple of attacks themselves with Charlie J coming close. The first goal of the day came from Teddy, who placed a nice shot too far into the corner for the keeper to reach.
Stanley followed working his magic from the left.
The game wasn’t all one way, with Rhys making some superb tackles in defence and James pulling off some incredible saves to keep it clean at the back.
Charlie J made way for Charlie T as striker and we started building again, Charlie T immediately causing them plenty of trouble with some great tackles high in there half..
At half time we swapped Rhys into goal for James, and Teddy had a break. Charlie J returning as striker, Charlie T moving to defence and James taking a go in midfield.
I’m not sure how the pumas half time team talk went but they came back out like a different team, and really went to work on punishing any mistakes we made and within minutes had taken our lead away.
The boys didn’t give up though and soon regained some composure and were attacking with James almost getting us back in the game.
The pumas were now really pushing and we were reliant on some great saves from Rhys in goal and defensive work by Charlie T.
Teddy replaced Stanley and the change of play helped us created a few more chances before the half was over.
A real tough game today against a fast and well organised opposition. The boys didn't give up though and continued creating chances and defending all the way to the end.
Player of the match award was a tricky call today, as some great individual performances from the boys. We decided to award this to Stanley. Another 2 goals, and his work rate was superb.
Well done NMJU8’s !
