Match Report NMJFC U9 Bees v Hayfield- 26/11/23

The Bees had the later kick off today, so all signs of early morning frost had completely gone. Once again we had a full squad to choose from for the game against our local rivals Hayfield.

Our games against Hayfield are always special with the added bite of local bragging rights up for grabs.

The Bees started with Stanley in goal, Will and Rocco at the back, Leo, Brooke and Millie in midfield and Charlie our lone striker. David was poised to get on the pitch asap.

The first half kicked off and it was end to end stuff. Hayfield attack, New Mills attack ……and repeat. Both keepers were busy.  Throughout the game Stanley made some quality saves 🙌🏻 He’s really developing as a keeper.

The passing from the Bees has developed into a really good possession game.  Brooke won the ball after a fierce tussle and played it to Leo who moved forward and played a slick ball through to Charlie who picked it up, ran forwards, held off a challenge and smashed it past the keeper⚽️

It was still end to end football with both teams coaches walking up and down the touch line following the gameplay. Brooke took a knock towards the end of the first half, so a quick reshuffle was needed to hold out until half time.

Will, Rocco and David had been busy defending throughout the half trying their best to keep the Hayfield attack at bay.  Millie was brilliant out on the wing, tracking back and then playing the ball through to a teammate. Just as the Bees were finding their rhythm again, the half time whistle blew.

Similar to our H/T team talks recently, it was very much… focus, keep passing forwards & concentrate and try not to watch the ball.

The second half started with the same passion as the first. Battles in midfield and trying to close down Hayfields players.  Part way through the second half, David after some valiant defending, took a knock and had to come off for a rest. Thankfully some rest helped 👍🏻

From a Hayfield attack, the Bees defence were on point and won the ball, played it upto Leo who set off with his lightning speed⚡️ he broke through the high playing Hayfield defenders and smashed a worldie of a shot into the top right hand corner⚽️

This was such a closely fought contest with the teams so evenly matched.

The entire team were ‘players of the week’ as they all put a proper shift in and in some cases, took a knock but came out fighting and their enthusiasm never stopped.

We go again next week
