Match Report NMJFC U9’s Bees v Hornets - 15/10/23
A frosty start to the day saw the 10.30 kick off as the first round of matches. The Bees were up against our rivals, training partners and friends, The Hornets.
Today the Bees lined up with a full team, so we had Stanley, Rocco, William, Brooke, Millie, Leo, Charlie and our debutant David.
We knew this was going to be a tough game, so the coaches emphasised everyone's role and to make sure they go in for the 2nd or 3rd ball as it was going to be a challenge from the first whistle.
The Bees were under pressure early on but managed to hold out and were battling in defence and midfield to try and make some space and push forward. It was heavy going for the Bees but time after time, Stanley was there to make a block or stop an impulsive shot and keep the ball out of the Bees net.
Millie was really trying on the wing, with Brooke doing the same on the other wing tracking back and looking to move the ball forward.
The Bees weren't getting the breaks or the luck of the bounce... it started to look like it was one of those days.
Half time came so we could have a re-group and re-focus on what we needed to work on.
In the second half there were flashes of what the Bees can do, some great passing again from Leo and Millie moving the ball forward. Rocco looking for the pass on the right side with Charlie ready to move it.
David was finding his feet in a match situation (first time he'd played with the team) but he was willing to get involved and listen and learn, which is a great start.
Charlie was tackling across the pitch, William and Rocco were doing their best to stop wave after wave of Hornets attack.
In the end it was a great derby game and everyone came off smiling.
Stanley 'safe hands' really made a name for himself today, sometimes double or triple saves to keep the ball out, fantastic to see (& also great to hear the 'opposition' coach (Joe) congratulating Stanley on some 'worldies')
Stan the Man was definitely the Player of the Week for the Bees.
It's a blessing and a curse to play against players who you train with and are friends with, but NMJ - we're one big team.
We will most definitely go again next week.
Well done Bees.
