Match Report NMJFC U9's Hornets v Buxton Young Bucks - 10/12/23

It’s always a great game against the Young Bucks and this was a really tough test for the lads who had to dig deep and almost grind out the result. We started solid but it was obvious early on, the boys would need to work the ball because if you held on to it the tackle was coming. In defence we also needed to get stuck in as these two teams know a lot about each other and we couldn’t afford them time in front the goal as we knew we would get punished.

Fenn was on it! Focused throughout, he never let his concentration fade and when tested, once again stood up to everything thrown his way.

At the back, we had Finners, Frankie, Oliver L & Ronan rotating their positions. These particular lads have done such a great job so far this season. They all want go & get goals but they understand what is required to be a good team and nothing get passed them. They then create the attacks by playing the ball out from the back and it’s very easy on the eye. So much so, we even had Albie at the back this weekend! That would never normally happen but as coaches, we loved it!

In attack we had Ollie M running the channels & creating chances. He never stopped all game and Oliver B was linking up the play as always does. Between him & Albie, we thought we had got the break through but it wouldn’t go in. Some great creative play from all three of them but the deadlock was broken by what can only be described as a grass-cutter . . . . . .  or maybe a 3G cutter. Before the game we had spoken about the wet conditions and how we could benefit from the rain. Frankie skidded a shot from distance along the ground & some how it found the back of the net 💥 You make your own luck sometimes Frankie-Boy!

Second-Half was more physical and The Hornets found themselves in a real battle and needed to step-up and assert some dominance on the game. Fenn was making saves and also showing us how capable he is at running out and clearing his lines. Ronan was switching between left-back & left-wing and he got his opportunity to continue his wonderful scoring run with a lovely finish 💥

The Hornets had to defend as a team and every single one of them worked their socks off to make sure they continued this incredible run we are on!

Player of the Match went to Fenn 🏆  Absolutely brilliant again and showing a new level of the modern goal-keeping capabilities. Nothing seems to faze him!

Keep it up lads. No game now until 2024. Should give everyone on The Hornets family time to recover from our Xmas party 💛🖤🎅
