One of our most anticipated fixtures in the football calendar. New Mills V Hayfield is a big derby and these kids have had some incredible battles against each other over the last few years!
It was cold at Glossop, really cold & I’ll give the lads credit….. not one of them moaned about it.
On the pitch, they started sluggish but Albie decided to ‘Step It Up’ and was on a mission to make sure we got an early advantage ⚽️ Albie then repeated it and was rewarded once again ⚽️
Unbelievable talent & this lad could run the show every week but when Albie starts passing & getting the others involved, THE REAL MAGIC HAPPENS 🧚♂️
Oliver B has been our ‘Playmaker’ this season and whilst setting up the goals, we were urging him to ‘Go & Hit One’. We wanted him to score and only a moment later Oliver B ⚽️ found the back of the net with a fantastic team move Ollie M provided the pass and within minutes these two were setting each other up again . . . . This time Ollie M scored ⚽️ perfectly ……. again! It was like watching Yorke & Cole!
Second-Half was spectacular. The Millers were asked to switch their positions by the coaches and this meant the defence went up-top, whilst the attackers protected our lead and became the creators. Initially, The Hornets struggled with a new dynamic. As coaches, we noticed the opposition “Were going through our back-line like a knife through butter”.
Luckily, between the sticks, we have possibly the greatest addition to what was The Original New Mills U7’s Blacks. Ronan was made for this team & Oliver L has found his football heaven. Fenn has been training with this group since he was 5 years old but this season he has become a key part of The Hornets DNA. Fenn made the most incredible save 👏 The ball was hit with power and heading to the near post but it was going in the top corner and it totally surprised everyone . . . . except Super-Hands, who clawed it out.
It was clear that the attackers weren’t happy playing in defence, but they did the job perfectly. In attack, well it didn’t have the pace it normally has and we found ourselves running into the corners and not being as creative. It was a new test and when Frankie managed shake off his opponent, he then put in a beautiful pass to Ollie M ⚽️ who was there again to complete his Hat-Trick 💥 💥 💥 Frankie then hit an absolute bullet out-of-nowhere ⚽️
Player of the Match went to Oliver B 🏆
The biggest compliment I can give this lad – He played exactly the same way in defence, as he does in attack. Not fazed by the change, he won the ball back and set-up the attacks. He makes football look so simple 💛🖤
Next weekend is Derby-Day as we face The Bees, who are in great form!
⚽️💛🖤⚽️
