Match Report NMJFC U9’s Wasps vs Buxton U9’s Comets 12/11/23
On remembrance Sunday it was a privilege to be on pitch 2 and have Dylan & Frankie bring the wreath to the centre spot before the minutes silence in advance of the game.
After the match last week & weather forcing mid-week training to be cancelled, the Wasps had the great opportunity for an impromptu training session to regroup and run through some team formation & routines in advance of the Buxton match.
With our defensive rock Jacob absent this week, assistance was provided from the Hornets to fill that breach.
The Wasps started the game in the formation from training, but Buxton came out strong from the kick-off. The Wasps were not put on the back foot, didn’t lose their shape and set about the opponents.
A small set-back in the first half didn’t deter the Wasps spirit, and a reply was delivered in style. The connection between Dylan, Kai & Rocco is a delight for everyone to watch.
Another set-back before half time brought the Wasps in behind but in very good spirits for the half ahead. And the second half started with that same spirit. The onslaught was on!
Another goal was certain. With changes to keep fresh legs against a very organised opponent, the pressure was on Buxton. In turn they made frequent changes to try to keep the Wasps at bay, but the pressure prevailed, with reward.
Corner after corner, and so much pressure & possession in the opponents half of the pitch shows how far the new Wasps have come.
The Wasps performance against Buxton is a reflection of their individual resilience and a growing team spirit. They have far to go.
Frankie:
Solid in every game including this one. Un-shaken at every turn. Saves by hand & feet. Long deliveries to feed the attack.
Sam:
Last weeks player of the week did not faulter again. Whether he was on the left or right he got to the ball first.
Alexander:
Switched to suit the changes from left to right, but met the challenge. Nothing got past him.
Alfie:
A terrier. He does not leave a loose ball to go to the opposition. Always looking to link & probe forward. We were looking for energy off the bench, it came in bundles, never disappoints.
Kai:
From the right or in the middle, not a ball left unchallenged & seeking the attack at every opportunity. Helping at the back & leading the charge.
Dylan:
Whether it is receiving the ball from a goal kick or collecting a loose ball in midfield, always looking forward to find the pass. A menace to the defence.
Rocco:
Give him the ball in front of goal…he knows what to do. Not just that, tracking back to help the team & driving forward for that pass.
Frankie H & Finlay:
Both rocks at the heart of the field. Every ball challenged. Sweeping up at the back & pushing to feed the front line.
The games player of the match went to Alexander. Engaged & watching the ball, he met and cleared every danger that came his way.
Well done Wasps! A great team performance against a difficult team.
We go again next week!
