Match Report NMJFC u9 Wasps v New Mills u9 Bees - 17/12/23

Seasons greeting to all parents, coaches and everyone involved with New Mills Juniors and grassroots football ⚽️🟡⚫️🟡⚫️

When the fixtures are decided at the start of the season, there are some games you immediately look for…. This was one of them. A great way to sign off before Christmas with a derby against our friends, training partners and rivals… The Wasps.

To use the first of many clichés…. The form book goes out of the window on a day like today.

Everyone was fired up for this game.. captain for the day and birthday girl Millie was especially keen to make a big impact 👍🏻

We had a full team available (although Roc was running a little late) we started with Stanley (minus his 2 front teeth… I hope he got some 💰 from the tooth fairy) in goal, David and Will, Leo, Brooke and Millie and Charlie as our lone striker.

As you could have predicted…. The game started fast and furious with both teams pressing and looking to gain the upper hand. As mentioned over the last few weeks, Will and David are really settling and feeling more and more comfortable on the ball.  Throughout the game, both made some crucial tackles and played some good through balls to the forward line.  On more than one occasion, they each brought a halt to a Wasps attack…. Great work boys 👍🏻

The Wasps lost Sam half way through the first half but persevered. The Bees were playing some great passing football, moving it forward …. Millie picked up the ball on the left and let fly with a great shot which went just over Frankie C for a goal. ⚽️

It was one way traffic for a while as the Bees kept pressing forward…. Each time Frankie C in goal for the Wasps kept us at bay…Brooke and Leo were pushing forward and tracking back looking for an opening but the Wasps were upto the task.

Half time chat and it was clear, we were passing when we should be shooting and shooting when we should be passing.  We started the second half with a change bringing on Rocco.

Once again, a relentless game of end to end football saw the Wasps manage to get the upper hand.  Their tenacious midfielder Alfie-Jack never stops running….. what an engine !!!

The Bees really had to focus, relax and play their passing game.  Leo had made some great runs on the right but not managed to cut inside (although he did hit a sky shot which cleared the cage …… I don’t think it’s stopped bouncing yet.. he wasn’t impressed when he was told he had to go and get it 🤣)

Some great work in midfield from Brooke saw the ball through to Charlie, who had been pressing and getting involved all game. He controlled it wonderfully and pushed forward, took it past the last Wasps defender with a delightful shimmy and smashed it into the goal ⚽️ …….. boom ! #CW7

These are the types of games that are so much fun to coach, all the players are New Mills Juniors and all coaches applaud both sides. Coaching each week with Jordan and Simon (Wasps coaches) is great !  Looking forward to next year and what the season brings.

At the end, the coaches decided the ‘other teams’ player of the match…. Simon and Jordan had no hesitation in choosing Millie. A great performance, a great goal and a great way to enjoy a birthday 🥳

We can have a rest for a week or two and go again in 2024.

Merry Christmas everyone 🎅🏼

⚽️🖤💛⚽️
