Today was the U9’s first game back from an extended Christmas break due to poor weather.
We were facing Adswood United in what would likely be a tough match, against a very physical side.
The boys were without Charlie T this week who was out through illness. We started with James in goal , Teddy and Rhys in defence, Jackson, Charlie J and Stanley in midfield and Dylan as striker.
Both teams started well, but it was New Mills who got the first goal, with Stanley finding the back post from the left side.
After going up, New Mills had their work cut out as Adswood generated attack after attack.
We introduced Pavak in as a defensive centre midfielder which helped sure things up.
After the break Dylan took the goalkeeping duties in exchange for James who settled into defence. We really started to push on this half, with James making sure nobody was getting past him and Rhys moving into a holding midfield role. We were able to play much deeper into their half with Charlie J chasing and adding pressure.
The hard work of the team was rewarded by Rhys, who scored a great goal. The whole team rallied, Teddy and James defending brilliantly against counter attacks, with Dylan performing some spectacular saves.
Jackson was solid in right midfield, he worked in some great passes and never gave up against some tricky opponents.
A good game today for all, a mention for Pavak, who tried out a new position and gave it is all before needing to come off from an injury.
Player of the match was James today, a great first half in goal and an even better 2nd half reading the game and timing his tackles with perfection.
