Match Report NMJFC U9s Bees - 03/03/24
A lovely spring day at Glossopdale this afternoon for a game against our local rivals Hayfield. Every game we’ve ever played against Hayfield, since under 7’s has been a right old ding-dong, goals galore and honours pretty much evenly shared….. today didn’t disappoint in terms of entertainment.
It was a special day today as we all observed the FA’s ‘silent support’ weekend. This meant there was no shouting from coaches, parents etc…. Only clapping. So the Bees would have to effectively coach themselves. It’s so difficult not to shout encouragement or give a few pointers on positioning.
Today the Bees were missing Rocco and Stanley (fitness test) hopefully Stan the man will be back on his feet in no time. We started with Oliver L in goal, Will and Callum at the back, Millie, Brooke and Leo with Charlie up front. David was poised to come on.
Special thanks to Oliver L from the Hornets who took the gloves and played in goal (also thanks to Lee and Leanne for staying around for another hour 👍🏻 much appreciated)
Leo was captain for the day and we kicked off ready to play. Both teams were testing each other out early on… the Bees quickly with a great run from Millie, the ball came across and Leo slotted home.
Hayfield were then relentless on the attack in pressing forward. Will and Callum were more aware and picking up Hayfield players when they attacked.
With the Bees in possession, Will passed forward to Millie who after a great run knocked home her first.
David came on for Charlie and was soon involved, looking for the ball and making some great tackles.
Hayfield broke forward and looked nailed onto score but Oliver pulled out a one handed save to knock it out for a corner. This game was end to end.
Half time and Rick and I had to get across the key message to each other, talk, pass, move and stay calm on the ball.
Hayfield started the brighter of the 2 teams in the second half and began to dominate.
More great possession from the Bees with Callum finding Leo, who after a run, passed to Brooke who hit the back of the net.
The Bees were creating more chances now and opening up the Hayfield defence. Leo was making some fantastic runs down the right and crossing for someone to put a boot through it.
Millie picked up the ball and after a jinking run slid home her second.
Charlie was toiling away upfront trying make some space and find a teammate.
Another fantastic run from Millie, who used her awareness and found a great through ball to Leo, who used his trademark speed to make some space and hit home his second of the day.
The front 4 battled tirelessly all day, the defence tackled and broke down attacks. Our stand in keeper made save after save. As they say with local derbies …. A great game for the neutral.
