Match Report NMJFC U9s vs Hazel Grove United – 24/02/2024

New Mills Girls U9s once again displayed sheer resilience and determination in today’s match against Hazel Grove United, despite facing significant challenges due to a reduced squad. With key players unavailable, the team had to adapt to a smaller lineup, but this did not dampen their spirits.

Facing a formidable 10-player side, New Mills took to the field with only five players, showcasing their unwavering commitment and passion for the game. Emily took to the net, while Annabella and Ebony formed a solid defensive partnership, and Jessica and Ava led the attack with vigour and determination.

From the opening whistle, it was evident that New Mills meant business. Despite their numerical disadvantage, they dominated proceedings from start to finish. The girls displayed exemplary teamwork, with each player contributing defensively and offensively. Their resilience was commendable as they thwarted Hazel Grove's attacks and launched numerous counter-attacks of their own.

The second half saw Ava transition to the goalkeeper position, and the other girls found their positions seamlessly, further highlighting the team's versatility and adaptability. With unwavering determination, New Mills continued to press forward, keeping their opponents on the back foot throughout the match.

The girls' performance was a testament to their hard work and dedication on the training ground. Despite the odds stacked against them, they showcased their skills and proved that they are a force to be reckoned with in this Cheshire league.

All of the girls played well today, and all were worthy winners of the POTW award, however coach Tom awarded it ultimately to Annabella, whose tireless work rate and tenacity were instrumental in today’s game.

The fun however did not end there, well not for two of our girls, whose commitment extended beyond their own match, as Emily and Annabella selflessly stepped in to assist another team, Glossop North End, in their fixture against Alderley United straight after this match. Despite having just completed a full 40-minute game for New Mills, both players displayed exemplary attitude and talent, earning praise from coaches and parents alike.

Our New Mills Girls U9 squad continues to go from strength to strength, and their remarkable display of skill, determination, and gamesmanship serves as an inspiration to all. With such dedicated players, the future looks incredibly bright for this team. Well done girls!
