Match Report NMJFC U9s vs Stockport Vikings – 28/10/23
The girls this week played one of the best games they have ever played. Despite the squad being 1 down (Seren taking a well-deserved day off), the girls put in a truly marvellous performance on this last full day of dark mornings and light evenings.
We comment each week on the girls’ smiles, enthusiasm and eagerness to play, and this week’s game was no different, but it is the team spiritedness and positivity, led largely by the girls’ biggest supporters, the WolfCat Ultras, that is really setting this team apart now.
Our line up started with Agnes in goal, Jessica and Emily in defence and Ebony and Paige up front, and the first 10 minutes was even pegging between the two teams, before the Vikings scored a couple of unfortunate goals.
Our girls however did not let this affect their game and in the second half, we saw the girls turn a corner with a great display of teamwork and determination.
Here we saw Annabella in net who rolled a nice ball out to Jessica, who passed to Ebony, who had a great shot on target, unfortunately a Viking defender got in the way, but Agnes found her position, followed the ball and scored her first exquisite goal of the season.
Tackling and passing has been a focus recently in training and it was great to see the girls’ showing us what they’re learnt. Jessica was solid this week in mid-field and put in some superb tackles. Emily’s confidence on the ball is growing each week, with some wonderful tackles and great shots on target. Millie was excellent in defence and moved up the pitch and dropped back when needed instinctively.
The goals then kept on coming, next it was our goal scorer from last week’s game, Ebony, showing her skills two-weeks in a row, supported with a beautiful pass from Ava. And then it was Paige’s turn to show her magic with a truly world class goal from the edge of the box into the roof of the net.
Player of the Match went to Agnes.
Agnes has been poorly for the last couple of weeks, but this week she returned with a vengeance, first stepping up to the goalkeeper position and saving some good goals, and then finding some brilliant positions on the ball, resulting in her scoring an impeccable first goal of the season. Well done Agnes and well done to all the girls – you are joy to coach and a joy to watch each week. Keep up the great work!
