Match report NMJFC U9s Wasps - 17/09/23

This was tough game for the Wasps against a well organised Hayfield.

Without Sam, Alexander playing his first game with his new team and Jacob not being available from the start, the Bees kindly offered Brooke to fill the breach for her former team.

With a make shift defence the Wasps were a little slow from the start and Hayfield were allowed to capitalise on that. However, the arrival of Jacob and him holding the back line saw the Wasps find their shape, and grow into the game.

What is now becoming a trademark goal from Dylan from the first corner settled any nerves and woke the Wasps.

Throughout Alfie, Kai & Brooke terrorised the midfield not giving an inch to the opposition. There wasn’t a blade of grass untrodden.

Some great moves through midfield resulted in a couple of fabulous finishes from Rocco to end a great half of football from both teams.

Hayfield applied a lot of pressure in the second half making it difficult for the Wasps to find their rhythm and get the ball in the oppositions half.

With Jacob standing strong in defence, assisted by Alexander, and Frankie pulling off some outstanding saves, in the most part, the Wasps managed to weather the Hayfield storm.

Dylan, Alfie, Kai & Brooke covered the pitch tirelessly, helping out in defence to get the ball forward through a very congested midfield.

A couple of shots just wide and clear strike against the Hayfield post saw the Wasps second half performance unrewarded.

Player of the match went to Jacob as the rock at back holding the Hayfield attack at bay.

This team have a lot to look forward to for the next game.

Derby day against Bees! 🐝
