Match report NMJFC Under 11s girls - 08/01/22

Marple Athletic Vs New Mills u11 Girls First game back and one that was cancelled just before Christmas. Great to see they all brought energy and commitment today. Possibly the best game of football I’ve seen them play.

Cold, wet, early morning but the mini Millers were on form. Keeping their shape, tracking back, determination and on point pressing gave us goal after goal in the first half. Brooke in centre midfield today was not letting her marker through with anything, winning back possession and using great skills to work her way through the players was fantastic to watch, resulting in a worked for goal which slipped through the hands of their keeper.

Again, the fast press keeping all the action up in Marple half Freya L blasting another shot skimming the keeper’s fingers into the back of the net. Nieve, Brooke & Nayia in midfield working the ball between them, Bella & Jay in defence using their power to keep Marple out of our half. Lily again, outstanding kicks to a team mate’s feet, confidence & patience, well done. Jaz & Freya B coming on for Nieve & Freya L in the second half of the first, holding their positions well. Jaz with perseverance and never backing out of a tackle, winning back possession with skill and with 5 minutes before half time finding the back of the net, well deserved. Freya B seizing her chance and lobbing the keeper for it to tuck under the crossbar left us ahead in a comfortable first half. Not resting on our laurels, second half change around, and with fair play Marple having the extra player. We had our three defenders out to help Nayia in net, with Brooke & Jaz midfield, Freya L back up front, the weather taking a turn for the worst, Marple sneaked one through a very busy goal mouth with a good goal. Keeping the pressure on and with plenty of shots on target we just couldn’t get through a tough Marple defence until ten minutes to go when Jay shot from well outside the area and took a hole out the back of the netting! We’ve waited for that Jay haven’t we!

The girls never gave up today, defending like a dream, staying goal side, marking up players and clearing off dangerous balls, well done. Absolute brilliant teamwork, unselfish on the ball, so many assists, midfield skills, a joy to watch.

Nod to Jay, your best game by far and you made a massive difference to our game today, mention to Jasmine for the midfield battles, but our GIRL OF THE MATCH today without a doubt – Brooke, you took no prisoners today and were full of skills. Well deserved. Parents chose Freya L for their girl of the match, keeping the ball in play putting the pressure on.
