Match report NMJFC Under 12 girls - 24/09/22
Vs Richmond Rovers
Long awaited match this one, our nemesis Richmond Rovers!
The first team we ever played who were humble in their wins but beat us at every opportunity. Not in the same league last season, so today the girls had a point to prove and they showed how much they improve each week. Determined players giving it their all but looking like it could’ve been goalless until Richmond found the back of our net. Not deterred in the slightest and a quick switch of players with renewed energy saw us go into half time 1 down. Not much to say from us coaches at half time except to keep up the energy, be brave and trust each other on the ball. Their teamwork ethic showed.
What a second half, again Brooke played a brilliant midfield position and hung back when needed, won every 1 on 1 and found a fantastic long ball through to Freya B for us to even the score. They weren’t done, another for Freya B and then another classic power shot followed which bounced off the bar for Ava to follow up the rebound and bag her first goal of the season, great vision, lost count of how many interceptions you secured today. Again, the calmness and confidence of taking their time and having purpose to passing showed throughout, Jazmin out wide also with class passing in tight situations, you worked so hard.
So much to say about ALL of them today. Lots of difficult situations which they handled well, unfortunately Freya B took a clattering from a frustrated Richmond side which resulted in a penalty but determined to stay on…
Brooke, captain for today, blasted it down the middle, above the keeper’s head for a superb shot. Still not giving up again we were awarded another penalty and put Nayia on the spot. Same style as Brooke’s it skimmed the top of the keeper’s head to rattle the netting in front of our supporters.
With real persistence all game, Freya L sliced the final goal of the game in with rapturous applause from all. Again, big shout out to those players who are filling in different positions and learning new skills whilst we support the new members in finding their feet.
Girl of the game today, brave, fantastic clearing, great pressure on Richmond’s strikers and forcing mistakes from the opponent is Scarlett. Well done.
Proud of them all – good work girls. #upthemillers
