Stockport Vikings Warriors v New Mills U18’s

The Millers Under 18’s recorded a comprehensive victory, in glorious sunshine in Heaton Mersey, over a gallant opposition who found themselves blown away by the pace at which their visitors started the game.

The Millers went close twice in the opening minute, Jake Brooks and Kit Maddox sending efforts just off target, before the deadlock was broken on 8 minutes. Brooks was the provider on this occasion sending Harvey Smith clear on goal and he made no mistake slotting across the keeper. A minute later it was two, Nathan Lees danced around several challenges and squared to Jake Robinson who fired in his first of the afternoon.

The Millers continued to create chances but found themselves frustrated by a fine, if unorthodox, series of saves by the Vikings keeper, but he could do nothing to keep out the third goal on 24 minutes, Brooks corner headed home by Robinson. A fourth goal was not long in arriving, Brooks long throw was fumbled into his own net by the goalkeeper with Alex Duncan lurking and ready to convert. A minute later it was five, Harry LR slotting home his tenth goal of the season. Brooks smashed in his first of the game right on half time after being sent clear by Maddox.

The second half saw The Millers retain control and they scored again on 54 minutes, a fabulous solo run by Brooks was followed by a disappointing effort, although the keeper was perhaps unsighted and fumbled the ball into the net. Max Gravestock slotted in on the hour mark for his first of the campaign, and Robinson completed his hat-trick two minutes later, Brooks again the provider. Brooks converted from a Harvey Smith pass to complete his hat-trick before sending his penalty kick against the post shortly after and being denied a fourth of the game. Lees slotted in to make it eleven with twenty minutes to go and Noah Smith, moved into an outfield position bagged his first goal in nearly three years with a good finish. In the dying moments Frank Woodrow raced clear on goal and smashed home, the ball clearly going in, but flew through a hole in the netting and the referee awarded a goal kick!!

There was no further addition to the score and The Millers move on to face other challengers.

There were several fine performances, Harry Wyatt impressed as sweeper, Brooks had a fine game with both goals and creativity, George Pottage was solid at the back but Man of the Match was awarded to Jake Robinson.
