Match report NMJFC Under 7s Yellows - 19/12/21

It was the final game before the festive break and the Yellows served up a real Christmas Cracker against SK Vipers.

With a few of the squad unavailable, the Yellows knew they would get more game time, but knew that they would have to find that extra level of energy against a team we knew were going to be physical and not give any time on the ball.

From the first whistle, as expected, the opposition were on the front with the Yellows unusually slow and sluggish in getting into the game. SK Vipers deservedly scored a few well taken goals without reply to go into half-time on top.

If there’s one thing this Yellows team don’t do, is give up. So a quick regroup, a positive chat and a few specific instructions and they were ready for the second half. The whistle went and the opposition didn’t see what was coming! The Yellows ramped up the energy levels, closing down every ball, pressed their defence from set pieces and for most of the second half were camped in the SK Vipers half. A first this season saw the Yellows awarded a penalty - but this was sent just wide of the post. This miss then triggered a just reward for their dominance with Ronan scoring an outstanding hat-trick to bring the game back level ⚽️⚽️⚽️

We know games can quickly change and after the Yellows goal spree, with their first chance of the second half, out of nowhere the SK Vipers had a chance and the ball hit the back of the net.

But yet again, the Yellows never game up and after consecutive corners in the final minute of the game, Ronan whipped in a ball that flew past everyone and dropped to James at the back post to fire it home much to the delight of his team-mates and the spectators behind that goal ⚽️

What a game this was and credit to both teams for their attitude today, playing great football and all congratulating each other at full-time.

Special mention to today’s captain Joshua, who has embraced his role as the main defender. His reading of the game is excellent, his tackles are superb and his forward thinking passes helped the team create a number of chances.

A well deserved break for the Yellows now, but a huge thank you to the parents who come to cheer on the team every single week. Roll on 2022!
