The Falcons lined up against Glossop NE U8 Oranges for the last league game of the season at Glossopdale.
The Falcons didn’t press with their usual energy from kick-off and this allowed the opposition to have the first chances of the game, but they quickly got into their stride and started to see more of the ball. As the first half went on both defences were holding strong, with minimal chances on goal for both teams.
A few changes at half-time and changes of position with the aim of getting the ball forward more and using the space. This definitely worked with the Falcons creating more chances and now starting to test the Glossop goalkeeper. With the team taking risks going forward and playing with a higher back line, the Falcons were more open at the back and had our goalkeeper Oscar on hand to make some excellent saves.
In the end the team had to dig deep today against a well organised opposition. But they were all great, especially adapting to their new instructions.
Special mention to today’s captain Lucas. Anyone who has seen Lucas play this season knows how he commands the role of defender and reads the game brilliantly so he knows when to step out and tackle. One area he’s been working on is taking a touch to control the ball, look up and play a pass. Today he did this perfectly.
Huge thanks to the organisers and referees we’ve had at Glossopdale this season - they’ve been ace every week.
Well done today Falcons - let’s get ready for cup finals day at Buxton now!!!
