Match report NMJFC Under 8s Bees - 15/01/23
New Mills Bees under 8's vs New Mills Wasps under 8's
Derby day ..... the game everyone looks for in the calendar and this one certainly didn't disappoint. The anticipation was there, the atmosphere... every single player was up for it. The Bees were down to the bare bones as Joshua and Rocco were missing this week.
The Bees began the game with Stanley in goal, Toby and Alexander in defence with Leo and Charlie upfront. The game started at a furious pace with end to end attacking and defending from both sides. Both goal keepers were busy throughout the first half making saves. Stanley pulled off more than one great save to keep the Wasps out.
The Bees definitely built on their fine form from last week and did some great passing through defence to attack. The partnership upfront with Charlie and Leo is really beginning to 'click' with each finding great throughballs to each other. Like last week, Toby came into his own with some superb battling and great tackling (almost had a clean shot on goal in the second half too) he is really enjoying playing outfield. When Seren came onto the pitch, she was raring to go and really had fun playing against her friends, although friendships were put aside as she made some great tackles.
In the first half, goals were flying in either end as it was such a great open display of football. Leo scored (in his words) a 'screamer' and a tap in, Charlie also got on the score sheet with some ruthless finishing.
Second half saw the usual switch around with Alexander going in goal and Stanley playing a linking role between defence and attack. As soon as the second half kicked off, it was more of the same end to end thrilling football. Leo grabbed another goal as did Charlie.
Alexander had some work to do to keep the Wasps at bay but he was equal to the task. In the end, the Wasps edged it, but every parent agreed at the end it was a fantastic game of football. This will work wonders with the Bees confidence. Player of the week was Toby for his enthusiasm and massive improvements in his outfield play.
As coaches, we coach all these players week in week out and we know them all really well, so it was great to see everyone playing with a smile and congratulating each other. Huge thanks to Phil and Joe who stayed behind after their Hornets game to assist in coaching the Wasps / Bees
