The Falcons were looking to build on last week’s performance as they came up against Glossop NE U8 Oranges at Glossopdale.
Both teams flew out of the traps at kick-off with an amazing level of energy, with no-one being left with time on the ball. Lucas was excellent as our main defender and Oscar’s extra goalkeeping practice was already showing the benefits in a frantic first half. Poppy was doing a brilliant job finding space and holding the ball up as our striker and Angus was doing a fantastic job battling for every ball in midfield. The Falcons finally made one of their chances count with Alfie firing in the only goal of the first half ⚽️
A half-time regroup and it was clear what the Falcons needed to do - win those loose balls, use the space down the wings and don’t let their lone striker get the wrong side of our defender.
Henry started the second half as the main defender and did exactly what he needed to do with some excellent tackles, marking and forward passes. Holly stepped into the midfield and was her typical feisty self, chasing every loose ball and getting stuck into the physical battles across the pitch.
An honest moment from our team as the referee awarded us a goal kick but our players told the referee that we kicked it out of play, so the decision was changed to a corner. Glossop took the corner and this went straight through everyone and swung directly into the far corner, for the only goal of the second half. Gutted! A big learning moment but super proud of the honesty of the team.
Special mention to todays captain Alfie, who embraced his role and stepped up to the plate with his leadership. As well as a very well taken goal, his understanding of the game and communication with his team mates was excellent today. A constant presence right across the pitch, Alfie was outstanding today.
Well done Falcons - another great performance. You were all awesome today!
