Match report NMJU9 Eagles - 15/01/23
A full Eagles team turned up on this cold and wet January Sunday for this eagerly awaited fixture against the Buxton Young Bucks.
We got a victory against this team earlier in the season so expectations were high going into the game.
The game was no different to the last time we met with both teams going for it in the early stages of the game.
An early setback didn’t dampen the mood of the Eagles and they were soon passing the ball around and making advances on the Bucks goal.
Unfortunately they couldn’t find the breakthrough. Several chances came and went in the first half but after a strong push by the Bucks in what remained of the half saw them put daylight in between the teams.
The Eagles regrouped at half time and again their passing game put them on the front foot but couldn’t work the Bucks keeper.
The young Eagles kept the pressure on throughout the half and they were rewarded after a they scored from a corner.
This was the breakthrough they needed but after numerous advances forward they couldn’t quite get the second goal to put pressure on the Bucks. A great effort from Brooke was one chance which deserved the applause of the crowd but the keeper managed to get in the way somehow and keep it out.
The Bucks ended the match strong and managed to score again to put the game to bed, but after an astonishing number of goal line clearances and hit posts in succession somehow kept the game at the same score line. Words currently fail me to describe the scramble that went on in that passage of play and how the ball didn’t end in the back of the net is somewhat of a miracle.
Goal today from Oliver ⚽️. Deserved his goal today. He captained the team today and his work rate was phenomenal.
Todays player of the match was Brooke.
She runs and runs and always gives the team 100%. She’s never afraid to do anything to help the team and is always in the middle of the action. An absolute gem of a player who will only continue to get better. Well done Brooke.
Special mention to Nathan today who constantly talks to the team and tries to keep them going. And also Hayden for stepping into the goalkeeper gloves again.
Numerous things to continue to work on in training as their passing practices are starting to show in matches.
Keep going Eagles 🦅
