Match report NMJU9 Eagles v Buxton Young Bucks - 19/03/23

Buxton Young Bucks awaited us on this Sunday morning over at Glossopdale and hopes were high going into it as we have already had a great game against the Bucks earlier in the season.

Early team news was in and we were missing only the ever reliable Nathan so the Eagles were at virtually full strength.

Archie had scored in every game he has played for the Eagles since he came in so could he keep his rich scoring vein up???

Last weeks player of the match, Jacob, started the game and he kept up his great play of late by defending superbly in the first half alongside Hayden.

The early play was dominated by the Eagles and chances came and went.

They played with great energy, passing and moving superbly and soon got their reward.

The goal was found on numerous occasions in the first half but one passage of play saw everyone stood in shock as somehow the Eagles couldn’t get the ball in the net.

Possibly up to five chances in the same part of play were created but great defending by the Bucks along with missed kicks and some good goalkeeping saw the ball stay out somehow!!

Players had given their all, resulting with a couple of substitutes as they said they were tired.

Something which we tell them every week to do if they can’t continue. It proves they give everything.

Half time and after pinpointing where the Eagles play went wrong, they came back out to try and put things right.

A change in goal as William and Zac swapped.

However the game seemed to change in Buxtons favour early in the half and they pushed forward regularly.

The Eagles tried but mostly in vain as some of their play was dinosaur ‘esque’. Slow and without any passion.

They kept going until the final whistle and it was great to see.

I can never berate these players after the season they have had, but going forward they all need to listen to instructions and put all their energy into the match.

Sometimes their attention isn’t towards the match but ultimately they never give up and constantly keep trying despite the results not going in their favour.

Special mentions today goes to Frankie, who was everywhere today and kept trying to break down the Bucks play and set the Eagles off on attack, Archie, who has given this team a new lease of life with his great play and goals, and Sami and Robbie who constantly never give up. Always trying to get the team going. Unselfish play by always looking for that pass to unlock the defence.

Goals today from Archie ⚽️⚽️

Todays player of the match went to Robbie. His play today was his best of the season and was constantly running around up front and being tricky for the Bucks defence. Unlucky not to score in ‘that’ part of the match.

Well done Eagles

Up the Eagles 🦅
