Match Report - U11 Yellows - Sunday 29th September

Writer: R.OakesR.Oakes

It was the first derby of the season as the Yellows lined up against NMJ U11 Blacks at Glossopdale.

The team were excited about this one! But we’ve found in the past you don’t know how the players will react on the day, playing against their mates, with a number of them even in the same class at school!

Leo and Fletcher were unavailable, but Nathan was a welcome return. The last few games, the Yellows have started strongly - but today it was the opposite! They struggled to get going, allowing the Blacks too much freedom and time on the ball. The Yellows goalkeeper, Zac, was in outstanding form again, producing a number of fine saves in the early stages.

It took a while for the Yellows to get going but they gradually saw more of the ball, reducing the Blacks chances and creating some their own. Henry, Lucas and Jack in defence started to settle down and communicated really well together.

Half-time was needed, a reset and the team were ready to go again.

The team was rotated more in the second half to keep the energy levels up. Nathan’s tough tackling was seeing him win more of the tackles and loose balls. Sami, Robbie, Riley and Angus were relentless across midfield, always looking to play the ball forward and Oscar was a constant threat up front.

In the end, the Yellows finished strongly and the team’s positive reaction at full time spoke volumes about this group of young players.

Goals for the Yellows today…

⚽️ ⚽️ Two goals today for our in form striker, Oscar! If you read last week’s report, you’ll know he scored the goal of the day. With his dad missing last weeks game, it’s as if he thought ‘you know what dad, I’m going to do it again today - but even better’. And boy he did! An amazing half volley, looping over the goalkeeper into the top corner. What a strike!

His second goal was another fantastic finish. A proper strikers goal where he was in the right place at right time to smash the ball into the bottom corner of the goal.

Special mention to today’s player of the match, Riley. Only 4 games into his football career, he’s thrown himself in, with a willingness to learn and showing positivity every single minute. Today he was excellent, great tackling, passing and communication. Well done Riley!

No game for the Yellows next week - a well deserved rest to recharge!

⚽️🖤💛⚽️
