NMJFC U10'S Hornets V Queensgate Tigers - 12/10/24

Writer: R.OakesR.Oakes

It was Saturday, it was Queensgate, it was pitch 9, The Hornets were in bibs & they were terrific.

Just like last week!

Sleep, Eat, Repeat – Everything is about routine at the moment and the boys continue to go through the motions which is constant. What we are practicing in training is adding another layer in the cake but the fundamentals are there and the boys were a pleasure to watch.

This week was Queensgate Tigers. Last week was Queensgate Cobras and both this teams provided The Hornets with a real test and it’s very rewarding watching the boys dig-deep when needed but also know when to go up another gear when necessary.

Fenn was organising his defence and even though we were missing Oliver L at the back this week, Finley, Kai, Ronan & Frankie rotated the positions and against a very tall and physically strong opposition.

The Millers stuck to the game plan and allowed nobody a chance. Finners is made for these games - The bigger the striker, the tougher he gets! Unfortunately for the boys from Bramhall, who were all huge, so Finely turned into ‘Beast Mode’.

Time after time, Finners was launching himself into tackles he had no right to win . . . . every time he came out the other side with the ball! An outstanding display of force, desire, passion & strength.

I’ve read recently of players at this age-group (normally attackers) being disappointed at the end of the match as they haven’t scored or maybe even assisted a goal. Imagine being Finley?!

Four season in-a-row this lad has played as our last-man. Rarely getting forward, he knows his role within the team and he doesn’t just get on with it . . . . . He makes it look cool! An absolute match-winning performance by our rock, who took home the Player of the Match🏆 award for demonstrating a masterclass in defending.

Finners was being supported by Kai on his right who was excellent. Listening to instructions, keeping it simple & playing it wide. Kai is becoming a coaches favourite.

On the left, Ronan was terrific. Also keeping it simple and showing his ball skills further up the field where he was also proving to be a real threat.

Frankie was also dropping back and the boys were shifting the ball around perfectly a dictating the pace of the game.

When called upon, Fenn was as solid as always in net. Fenn was also controlling our counter-attacks with his wise football brain by starting of the move.

Oliver B was switching between the a wider role and then back to centre-mid. Oliver B has asked to play on the wing for the last few weeks and has been very prolific. This week he requested to switch back and was sensational. He worked his socks off and the way he was controlling the ball from the Queensgate GK’s kicks was outstanding.

Charlie had his best game of the season so far. The boys were looking for the final pass to Charlie and that goal is getting ever closer. Charlie was linking up very well with Albie & Ollie M and our pressure paid off. Albie loves a goal and has scored some blinders in his time. This was different as he showed his footballing nouse to be alive & ready. Albs⚽️ got us going with a great reaction header from a Queensgate clearance.

Ollie M⚽️ also grabbed another strikers goal with a superb finish to continue his outstanding start to the season. This boys look so relaxed on the pitch but as coaches we are learning that this is his style and nobody loves scoring more than Ollie M!

Another great performance from The Hornets who will prepare on Wednesday training for our Cup Match against Reddish NE Greens.

POTM was Finley - He bossed the game from defence and took no prisoners

⚽️🖤💛⚽️
