NMJFC U10's v RNE Greens- 19/10/24

It was Cup 🏆 weekend for The Hornets who have been in spectacular form and knew the opposition would be tough. . . . . .  our Media Officer was quoted saying this was “The toughest team we have ever played!”

Oliver B settled our nerves, clinical & accurate ⚽️

It was clear we needed to be on our A-game and we were trying to contain some phenomenal  players in the RNE Greens team.

Half-Time couldn’t have come quicker. Coach Colette was on hand to settle the boys down and we needed to accept that sometimes you are faced with a difficult task. To compete at this level we needed to adjust and a collective game plan to stifle their stronger players.

Finley, Frankie & Oliver B took it in turns to Man-Mark RNE Greens strongest players. All three of them did this perfectly. The boys were learning a new aspect of the game and it was a privilege to watch.

When they did break our defence, Fenn was in outrageous form. They tried beating him at his near post constantly but he was wise to it. When they went across him, Fenn palmed them away to safety. Our GK was keeping us in the game & won our POTM 🏆

Kai was as hard as nails at right back. Waiting for his chance to pounce, then clearing his lines. Oliver L started on the bench with an ankle injury but once the game became a ‘War Zone’, he needed to get involved in the defence and help out his fellow soldiers.

We were missing our goal-poacher as Ollie M was unwell. This allowed Charlie to step up and he continues to progress and gain confidence. He is beginning to shine now and we need you Charlie-Boy, more now than ever before. Stick at it CW7.

Ronan took it upon himself to play both his role & cover for the missing left-winger. Ronan was up & down that wing more than I have ever seen. Putting in the hard-yards & never giving up. Our Rocket is in great form!

Frankie & Oliver were dictating the game with their passing range and turning defence into attack. Their reward came when Frankie ⚽️ fired one into the box and it took a deflection and ended up in the back of the net!

This game was even and The Hornets were matching up in every department. Albie was putting in another team performance and although he loves scoring, sometimes we need him to win the ball back and keep it in the other half. Maestro was up to the task and was out skilling their defenders and it felt like the goal was coming. Albs display was even being noticed by the parents of RNE Greens!

The game was in the balance and we needed some warriors to step-up . . . .  They all did!

Oliver B dropped back to help and our defence did the team proud. Frankie was displaying leadership skills beyond his years and the boys were organised and encouraging each other through the final moments. Finners displayed this in abundance when he tracked back and took one for the team. Some would call it a professional foul……. We call it ‘Nails’!

We get to do it all again this weekend and the boys have been boosted by a brilliant ‘Training Game’ on Wednesday where they displayed all the ingredients needed to get us to the next round.
