NMJFC U9's Hornets V Hayfield - 8/10/23

What a difference to last week......

Absolutely every aspect of this weekend's match was a polar opposite to last weekend. The weather was glorious for this time of year and the boys found themselves in a real battle with our neighbours from Hayfield.

This week our lads were ready and up for a challenge and we were playing at Haragate Hill Lane - The home of Glossop Rugby . . . . . ok, we were actually at Glossopdale but it felt at times that we were playing a different code of the same sport!

This really is the magic of football and although we didn't have it all our own way, the lads had to find a different set of skills to learn and dealt with it. Finley was magnificent at the back and won every battle before bringing the ball higher up the pitch. As we approached half-time our two 'Laceless Lads'  managed to find the back of the net. 'Ronan The Rocket' hit an absolute screamer to get The Hornets in front. Rocket then took the corner that found Oliver L, who scored!

The Mini-Millers had cushion & went onto to express themselves in the second half.

Oliver B & Ollie M were linking up excellently and although the weather was still lovely, the tackles rained in from our opposition but the boys began to grow in confidence and showed our parents watching, we can play!

The Hornets were knocking the ball around beautifully and chance after chance came our way and the lads executed every time. This was clearly evident when Oliver L hit a ball from the half-way line and burst the net with pure accuracy & power! An incredible goal and between Oliver L & Ronan, there was clearly a goal of the season competition appearing.

The best was yet to come as the lads went up another gear. Frankie & Albie grabbed a couple of goals each and The Hornets had a new 'feather in their cap'. The team proved developing and the opposition were a very tough test. Our boys stuck to the plan and most importantly, looked after each other!

Oliver L won POTM and although it was a hard one to call as they were all great, Oliver L was magnificent!

Derby Day next weekend as we face The Bees....
